https://techcrunch.com/2022/01/09/feature-bloat-cars-chip-shortage/

talks about excessive doodads, chip shortage, reliability, etc. I’m not a luddite, retired from an IT career, but I still think simpler is better when it comes to autos. Everything in my 20-year old Ranger still works, because there’s not much tech stuff in it that can fail.
I skipped the Lux on my Larait order, as well as the FX4 off-road; got most of the rest...

I have to do the Lariat. I can't do single zone HVAC anymore.

My wife and daughter would cook me with what they require the temp to be at.

We just didn't want or need all the doodads plus I think the XLT orange highlights are kinda strange. Oh, those things and the price.
. After removing Co-Pilot 360 and adding back the "full size" spare, including the whopping $100 for the receiver hitch and 4 pin connector and destination charge, we are looking at $21885 plus tax for a trucklett that gets 40 MPG. Not everything that sounds to good to be true actually is.

If i wasn't 6'6" I'd love to try one of those. I've heard a lot of smaller guys swapping in the normal beta suspension on them and using them for a light hard enduro bike.

I got a 2019 TE250i and 15' KTM adventure 1190R.
2016 350 exc-f 2020 790 R here. Plus a hand full of small bike for shits and giggles lol!

Here in the south, it's referred to as being just plain "po."
(y)We could not afford the other letters.

I had my dealer remove the SIBL on my XL order Friday - I just saved more money!

Po' Lives Matter.

Check out Bullet Liners. I've read good things about them.

My first real job I worked at a gas station whose owner collected 55-57 Chevys. This was 1973. He had dozens of them.

Why a Hybrid XL? ... I'm spending way too much on my 1957 Chevy, had to choose which one to spend the more dollars on! Check it out in the Showcase "other vehicles".

Rub our faces in it…… over cruise control…… omg so Pathetic
Dude, before you open your mouth and prove your ignorance, there is a long history of XL owners complaining about not having factory Cruise Control. You just joined in February so stay in your lane.

Heated seats? Ford, I eat an All American diet. I'm not paying thousands for something my own butt will do anyway.
I was the same way until I had a vehicle with heated seats. Now I'd be hard-pressed to get a car without them.

My last commuter car was a poverty model. It was literally the cheapest iteration of the vehicle that could be spec'ed out. It was a great transportation appliance that did what I needed it to do.

Since then, I decided that, if I have to spend 3+ hours a day driving, I want it to be a nice drive and not just a tolerable one.

The fact that you could load it up and still be way under what the average new car price is what made me go for a Lariat first edition.
Same for why I want an XLT Lux!

My mod is putting on tailgate lettering, window deflectors and a tonneau cover. LOL!
Similar for me. I had lifted and lowered cars and trucks of all sorts. Now I'm at the point that I'd rather just buy a vehicle that has as many of the options that I want as factory equipment, then just add on the necessary aftermarket stuff (topper, 12v aux power, scene lighting, etc.)

I do enjoy watching all the mod threads and see everything folks can do with these little trucks!
I agree! I think the Maverick might become the Subaru BR-Z/Scion FR-S of the truck world, but in a good way. Like as in, it is inexpensive enough that anyone can pick one up and get to modding it to their liking.

In the case of cruise control it turned out to be a legitimate grip for XL owners. Ford in my opinion screwed over XL owners and even their dealers by not offering it either as an option and charge an extra $200 - $300 when all they needed to do was build an XL with 2 different steering wheel switches they stock for other vehicles since all the hooks are already in the modules to make it work instead of trying to force you into a $3000+ upsale to an XLT trim. I get the business decision of it but the better option would have been to not offer it as an option on the XL trim but allow the dealers to add it in as a dealer installed option that guarantees warranty coverage for about the same price. Just not advertise it and let the dealers sell it directly to people who committed to an XL trim. That would have covered all bases.

Why even make it an option? To add cruise to a steering wheel costs what, under $100 once WE buy the switches and cable and pay for FORSCAN.

So a massed produced vehicle, that recycles parts from other vehicles, probably costs Ford pennies to do at the factory.

The lack of cruise is purely a money grab by them.

Totally agree with you. I needed the Cruise control and know how to drive a car/truck without any fancy extras. They know exactly how to get us to pay more money for basics.

Although I posted earlier about my XL choice, this title still bothers me! Luxury cars and luxury packages have regularly been proven to be horrible investments. Saving for retirement makes a lot more sense than keeping your butt warm for 40 minutes a day. I would retitle this "Why I invested in my IRA instead of an XLT or any other Luxury Package"
