Yes he was certainly impressed with the MPG and I can understand why. I have gotten well above the EPA average since I purchased mine. Totally happy about that given the current gas prices and that only seems like its going to get worse with all this Russia crap going on.

I get almost always more MPG on the highway unless I have to drive uphill a lot. My average overall mpg after 2.5k miles is about 41mpg!

Where and how are you people driving getting over 37 MPG? Are you trying to maximize the mpg by driving super slow all the time?
I have over 2500 miles on my hybrid, and so far my average for the 2500 miles is 36mpg. Unless you are driving "stop and go", and not going over 20 mph I just don't see the average MPG being over 40...

Since I am looking ever more likely that I will have a MY23 MavBrid - I bought a 2022 CRV Hybrid I found while I wait.
A few things first - I changed my oil this past weekend at 1,400 miles (had 18 when I bought it). I watched videos on how to change the oil on a CRV hybrid so I was familiar. Go underneath it and - lots of the underside plastic faring is missing. Not like it has been torn off - just simply never installed. I've inquired with the dealer but don't believe I'll get far at all. Next, my CV axles are all rusted - so those who complain about it with Ford, a $40k Honda has the same QC and cost cutting issues as the Mav.
Now the MPG - which is rated at 40 city / 35 hwy.
In the city - the best I've sniffed was 36 mpg on a very short 70 mile fill up. I'm generally around 32-33 mpg AND that is driving without any climate control and as conservative as possible.
On the highway - I drove from Columbus, OH to Wytheville, VA on 33 and 77. Not the easiest drive but Southern Ohio provides a good 45 mile stretch of 55mph roads. I got 24.5mpg. I put it in sport mode because why tf not and it somehow improved fuel economy to 30 mpg for the rest of the trip.
So far over 1400 miles I am average just over 29mpg for the life of the vehicle. This is hand calculated at the pump. It's awful for a Hybrid.
Very nice interior. Silky smooth drivetrain. Piss poor MPG.
Can't wait for my Mav and it's awesome to see so many positive MPG reports from various outlets.

Wow. That is bad. We have a current generation Insight with that similar hybrid drivetrain, but FWD only. It does not get much long trip highway use, so the mileage has always been very good around town. Honda's hybrid system is different than the Ford/Toyota one in that the engine mainly runs only as a generator except at certain highway speeds where it can couple with the transmission. It drives more like a full EV since it is propelled by its electric motors almost 100% of the time even when the gas motor is running as a generator. It is still surprising that the mileage was that low on the highway.

Correct. It's one of the reasons why I wanted to give it a shot and what it was like before the Maverick arrived. LIke I said, it's really smooth, linear, and powerful through about 35mph. I know - it is not made to be a highway vehicle.
I believe the Insight uses a 1.5L AC where the CRV uses a 2.0L AC. Which truly doesn't matter because it's still woefully under-powered for the CRV when locked into ICE only in the fixed over drive gear.
My opinion is the CRV hybrid was largely an after thought on Honda's part and they basically took the Accord drivetrain and tweaked ever so slightly (reduced the # of teeth in a gear to give it greater torque) and plopped it into the heavier and much less aero CRV.
Where the accord goes 48/48 the CRV plummets to 40/35 and that should have been a clue. Anytime the 2.0AC is running (and under load) the gas miles are 20-22mpg even when in "hybrid" mode. Even some active shuttering on the front of the vehicle would have helped the MPG a little, or a larger battery.
Either way - the MPG have been really disappointing but overall it's a great vehicle so far.
Me too. I get maybe 33-34 on the highway but also go 74-75mph most of the time. In "city" driving, yes, I can blow past the 42mpg estimate.You just saved me 13 minutes.
