Out of curiosity, why are you looking at something bigger? Do you have a family of 4 or do you go camping a lot...I do and we've done it fine in a much smaller car than a Mazda 3 hatch (previously in a 3-door Hyundai accent hatch). It always interests me how/why people go straight to an SUV when it seems (to me) that a smaller sedan would meet their needs just fine, along with being more cost-efficient all around. I can confirm that a Prius has a bunch of cargo space.
I have a dog, so I would prefer her in the back cargo area rather than a row of seats so sedans are out. My wife has a Mustang so when we need to get stuff at the store, its usually my vehicle. And we don't have kids, but when we pick up my parents or in-laws, that's two grown adults in the backseat. I've also driven cars my whole life and they're generally lower to the ground and louder. Without spending more money on a luxury hatchback, my logic was a crossover higher off the ground would be a slightly quieter. Hence all the reasons that landed me on the Rav4, or subsequently now the Prius.

I am not a fan of the Prius exterior but that's just personally. Once I've been on a Road trip with my friends Prius prime limited and had a decent chance driving it. The ACC feels smooth and auto steering is comparable to that of my current maverick. Here are some take aways that might help you decide between Prius prime and maverick lariat/lux:
Prius:
1.Better MPG. Almost exceed 50mpg as I noticed.
2. Plug in hybrid saves you some fuel if you go within 20 miles it's all electric.
3. Seat comfort is just Okay.
4. Sound system on that Prius is decent, I like both the Prius and maverick sound system, though they each have distinctive signatures.
5. Rear seat and space is slightly better than Maverick.

Maverick:
1. I like the exterior on the maverick better and in person, it looks Waaaaaaaay much bigger than the Prius, almost making it feel like a toy car.
2. Interior room is significantly better compared to Prius if you sit inside a maverick. I especially like how much space you get below the center console. You can easily put tons of things and bunch of smartphone in there, that you cannot do with a Prius.
3. Seating position is better on the maverick, although the cushion is on the hard side compared to the Prius. Overall I like seating in the maverick better.
4. The leather wrapped steering wheel feels cheap compared to that of a Prius.
5. the infotainment is actually better than Prius despite it has much smaller screen: first, the climate control is done with the buttons, which I like a LOT. second, I use CarPlay all times, and since it's horizontal anyway, you do get a bigger screen on a maverick compared to Prius, since the CarPlay only occupies the very top of that narrow screen.
6. The Prius prime has a much smaller trunk space since the battery takes up a lot of the rear cargo space.
7. The build quality inside a maverick is unsurprisingly on the cheap side, but I do feel maverick to be a sturdy vehicle, especially when you grab the door handles, the doors feel heavy compared to the Prius, which has no weights.

Overall I am very happy with my choice so far, the only thing left unproven is the longevity, which I think Prius will make a big win.

My final suggestion to you is to find a Rav4, a Prius, and a maverick if you can. Sit inside and take it for a ride. That's the only way you know which one is right for you. I did that before I bought my maverick and now I am completely satisfied with my decision.

There is a good chance you get pushed to 2023 on your Maverick order. I think you would do well to wait. If you can’t wait maybe pick up a used Prius for your daily commuter. Taken care of a Prius can stack up 250-300k plus miles. Once that is paid off buy a slightly used Maverick for your truck needs. I’ve been driving a Prius for 7 years. Even though it was the worst year ever for Prius (2011) it still goes down the road just fine.
Unfortunately, there are several reasons I can't wait for a 2023. I'm hoping that doesn't happen, but time will tell. I will definitely check into a used Prius for the time being--Thanks!

I have to admit that I was holding on hope, but that recent dealer memo kinda put the first nail in the coffin for me. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if the Maverick is the right vehicle for me.

I wanted the Maverick because it was a hybrid and for the price range ($31K Lariat), I could finally have a bit of luxury in one of my vehicles. I understand forums are a place where mainly negative grievances are shared, but all the reviews of the easily scuffed interior, paint chipping, and the overall views of ford being a rusty, cheaply built vehicle, is the Maverick really the little bit of luxury I am hoping it would be? I still have yet to be able to get up close or sit in one in my area.

A pickup truck was nice, but the more I think about it, is it really practical for my lifestyle? Mainly because I have dog that always rode in the back of my hatchback and in the Mav, she would have been all over the seats. Plus for Florida, if I wanted any cargo in the back to be relatively water tight, that's another $1,000 for a Tonneau cover.

I found myself looking at a hybrid 2022 Rav4 XSE. Factoring the in tanneau cover needed for the Mav, it's only $3k more (I have not researched dealer markups or anything yet). It has the same powertrain and near identical fuel economy, plus I understand Toyota has a pretty good reputation for good build quality and reliable vehicles. Not factoring in the loss of a pickup bed which may or may not be right for my lifestyle anyway, the only creature comforts I would be losing would be the premium audio and I understand Toyota has a less intuitive adaptive cruise technology.

Thoughts?
I think luxury and Maverick should not be in the same sentence. With that said, I also think the same applies to Rav 4 and most, if not all, Toyota vehicles.

To me, leather (or fake leather now), heated seats, adaptive cruise control, fancy creature comforts, are all luxurious items. Is it a Mercedes or Ferarri? No, but the Lariat and the trims of Prius and Rav4 that I'm looking at have all those features so they do offer some form of luxury over the base trims.

Understood but isn’t that kind of vehicle described as fully-loaded rarher than luxury?

So I have a question about Toyota. Do they stand behind their work in regards to repairs? I remember a time when they didn't. They had engine oil issues that made national news. I realize no company is "perfect", yet that is what stopped me from buying a Toyota last time. Thanks

Tomato tomahto as far as I'm concerned. For someone that's never had a fully loaded vehicle before, it's luxurious to me.

Before I found the Maverick (and before used prices went CRAZY), I was looking to get a used 2019 Rav4 XSE in 2022. I figured I could find one coming off lease for a decent price. When I found the Maverick and I could get what I wanted for $10k less then the new Rav4, I was sold. I need a car by December 2022, and my biggest worry was it coming in too soon. Fast forward 6.5 months later. No build date, and with my configuration, a good chance to be pushed to a 2023 model.
So I started looking around. I'm leaning towards a Kia EV6 at the moment. I know the Rav4s are hard to get, especially in the XSE trim. The EV6s are brand new, but several dealers "think" they could have one for me within a month or 2. I'll pay MSRP or I'll walk.

This past October my very high mileage CR-V was totaled by a suicidal deer. I was planning on driving it until my MAV showed up. I had to get something and was lucky to find a new 2021 RAV4 hybrid LE. I love it. And like you, I have a pooch that rides in the cargo hold.

My only gripe with the RAV4 is the uncomfortable drivers seat which I remedied with a seat cushion and a back support. Otherwise, great car. And of course, not everyone finds the seat uncomfortable.

Since that time my MAV hybrid has been scheduled for production the week of 04/04/22. I like the idea of the MAV but do not like the idea of the pooch riding in the backseat. So I looked into a softopper which would remedy the situation. I was told by softopper that a top was in the works. I hope so, because that would be a real game changer for me. I want the MAV hybrid, I think. I will be closely following the glowing cat convertor situation which is concerning to me.

My RAV4 hybrid LE is the base model but very nicely equipped for well under 30 grand.

Good luck.

We have a 2021 RAV4 Prime. If Toyota would put this drivetrain into a comparable size truck I would buy it in a heartbeat and not even consider a Maverick. The comfort, power, and mileage is absolutely perfect. With our driving style we have averaged about 62MPG over the course of the 10K miles that it now has. The 0-60 time is just a little quicker than my 2017 Lexus IS350 F Sport. Toyota......PUT THIS IN A TRUCK!!!

When my Maverick (hybrid) was continually getting delayed, I started considering the RAV4 Hybrid SE as i neither want or desire moonroofs or leather.

Going on Sunday to look at them. Depending on how insane the markups are, I might have to consider the SE. I do love the digital dash and larger entertainment screen though on the XSE model... If it had that dash and screen, I would be more willing to drop the leather and moonroof.

We'd probably buy it too, unless it came with the Tacoma premium. I'd assume that something like that would run at least $40k.

I was considering the Prime but its a little out of my price range. From my understanding, the federal tax credit does not get deducted from the cost of the car, correct?

Also, how often do you plug it in and how much has your electricity bill gone up?
