I don’t see how it makes a difference I mean literally how much more are you willing to pay to keep your transaction local. So if someone is charging 10,000$ for something one place, including shipping etc. and locally you would be willing to pay 11,000$ so you buy it locally, then your answer would be 10%.

I ask because I am wondering things like how discounting really affects local monetary velocity, how much of a premium being local will support, things like that.

In my case it is dependent on if I am me, or representing the foundation, etc. In our charter, and with some funds we are required to attempt local first. After all we are trying to help our local community. But, I also have a responsibility to be fiscally responsible. Every 400$ Saved allows us to not only help another family, but also pays local contractors for their work.

Maybe that makes more sense, or confuses things more.

TL;dr
How much more for something would you be willing to pay, to keep all of it local?
I saved just north of 2k by going out of state. I am not baller enough to ignore that. Grats to anyone where that's a drop in the bucket though.

I ordered from a dealership 4 hours away because every "local" dealer I contacted approached me with the same laziness and apathy you'd expect to find from just about everyone here in south Florida. It was literally like they didn't want to sell me a new car. One even tried to bait and switch me by lying about offering employee pricing.

Got hooked up with a dealer who's good friends with a relative of mine and the guy got my order placed AND made an offer on my current vehicle all in one day - all via text/email. All I need to do is show up when the vehicle arrives and work out the financing. Also got me to upgrade to the spray-in bed liner as opposed to the drop-in, and for a comparable price.

Customer service is mostly dead in America, so I'll always go with whoever's willing to get the deal done. Coffee is for closers.

I think using a courtesy dealer made the difference for me. I didn't really want to fly to PA and drive the Maverick back to SC.
The CD fee will be $200 so for me money well spent, If for some reason I don't like the truck instead of paying to ship it to PA I will just sell it myself which I think should be pretty easy.

I think you misread me. I said it made no difference how much you saved from invoice or MSRP, instead I was interested in how much it took to switch from local to somewhere else.

To put it in simpler terms: How much % wise are you willing to pay if something is local. Or How much of a discount % wise do you need to get you to buy out of the area.

For me getting MSRP and low dealer fees locally would have been enough, but living in South Florida that is just dreaming. Every dealer wants $1,000.00 deposits and $695.00 dealer fees plus. I’ve had to buy cars and trucks north of West Palm Beach just to get a break.

I have literally called nine dealers in Dade and Broward Counties and none are interested in a CD. I’m waiting on two call back’s tomorrow and will probably book a CD in the Tampa area.

Honestly I almost don’t care what the local dealers would offer. Buying local has been a hassle for years.

Buy from Chapman and figure out shipping through uship, or he'll set it up. It's about $800 door to door insured.

I'm about to get my Gladiator from him sometime this month and I'm just going to fly up and drive back

I will be paying MSRP + NJ Taxes 6.63% 😯 + $400 doc fees + $ for tags. I guess that is a good deal.

On board with Tom at Chapman and was able to get Mullinax Ford of West Palm Beach to accept the CD. Could not have done it without the help I have gotten from everyone on this forum.

As far as I know, I will not be charged a premium. I paid a $500 deposit when I placed my order. I was told the deposit is refundable and/or transferable, because my dealer is confident they can sell my hybrid if I decline to buy.

I will pay full price (MSRP-available discounts/incentives), but no additional charges that I know of. There is always the possibility they could attempt to ~bleep~ me over when/if my hybrid arrives, so we shall see.

I purchased from Dick Masheter Ford in Columbus, OH.
When you use the term ‘that I know of” now is the time to get everything at least in an email. Don’t wait until it gets there to determine add ons and doc fees.

Currently we have a Chapman quote @ $1300 less on our build vs local dealer willing to sell at dealer invoice - After the hassle of trying to secure a CD from a local dealer savings would probably be around $900 - How many folks would push the out of state logistics button for $900 in potential savings and or just feeling better about Chapmans straight up clear communication and build updates ?

And more Germaine to my question: what % has that saved you? Probably about 4% if that’s the case then list 3-4% or 4-5% whatever feels truer to you.

At the end of the day- pondering the $900 ish savings when drop shipping a vehicle, I think this raises the stress level a bit in the case the vehicle that arrives has any damage and is somehow mis-optioned/etc
