I was looking over the cost of my Maverick and I see they charged me $399 for antitheft. Is this a Ford charge that everyone gets, or is this a local charge by the dealership?

Was this charge on the Ford factory sticker or a dealer’s window sticker?

They tried to, every vehicle we sell has to have it Installed.
I refused and told them I don’t need another GPS tracker installed on a vehicle that I am purchasing outright from you. Charge was removed. I understand that if your financing through the dealership that they want to be able to locate the vehicle if you don’t make a payment. But I showed up with a check and the dealership had no reason to track the vehicle.
It’s a money maker for the dealership. There was stickers on every door, tailgate, and some of the windows. Easily removed by myself.

I will have to call the dealership to find out what the charge is. I used a credit union to buy the car, so dealer is off the hook if I steal it. Now it is problem for the CU. I assumed it was a charge to protect all the cars on the lot from theft. Anyone can go to a dealership, hot wire a car, and drive off. There aren't any fences to stop you, at least not here in WI.

Funny you should mention this.

Upon going to pick up my new 2023 Maverick, I was told there is a standard anti-theft charge that the salesperson said all new vehicles at the dealership are subject to. Upon inquiry, I was shown a Bronco in the lobby just outside the office door. It (and my Maverick) have barely discernable number coded engravings (more a stamped etching) on all of the windows just above the Ford etchings. Money maker for the dealership, but considering my truck's windows had already been stamped and that was the only added dealer "surprise", I didn't throw a tantrum.

The finance guy explained how it worked in better detail. In the rare occurrence that my vehicle is stolen and can not be recovered within a given time period, I will receive $2,500 from the "security" company. If I recollect correctly the charge for this great "service" was just over $300. I'd have to look at the paperwork I signed and was given copies of for exact the details, but that's it in a nutshell. At $300 plus a pop, I'm sure the dealership does quite well with this wonderful anti-theft insurance "service". Phooey.

They tried to get me for $600 for a crap add on alarm. I didn't pay it and they didn't remove it.
It caused a draw that would kill my battery. They disconnected it and now all is well.

The GPS device they are talking about is probably a tracker that tracks everywhere you drive and all about your driving habits. Read the paperwork fine print because the one they tried to sell me allowed then to gather all that info and sell it to whoever they wanted, and it wasn’t an invasion of my privacy and by the way their data was not secure so anyone could hack it and have the same data. The theft recovery was an oh- by the way. The dealers get paid by this company to add those devices on all new cars and it makes both of them a lot of money gathering and selling your data.

I don't have a direct answer but an after market tracking device was installed by the selling dealer as part of the $1795 dealer added accessories on my 22 EB. [It was really the ADM over MSRP] In reality, the tracking device helps them locate my vehicle if they need to reposses it. [I paid outright but they didn't care] Supposedly "free" for the first few years [life of the loan?] and by subscription thereafter. The device qualifies for a slight insurance reduction with some insurers.

All these products make dealerships tons of money. I know, as I use tho sell them at time of sale. I was a Finance Mgr at a Ford Dealership. Glass etching costs them maybe $50 bucks, anything above is pure profit. Anything that is not on the factory window sticker from FORD, is a ADM or Dealer options. Dealers make money on financing, insurance, warranty, accessories, add-on, etc. All these are on top of price, whether at invoice or above MSRP. Not in car business anymore, it is a tough business.
