Why then did they name it "Maverick?" About half the boomers here drove one at one time or another.

Nostalgia sells, but not quite as well as a good deal on a pickup.
Maverick sounds better, I would have liked Courier myself.

I see the impatient haters here bashing on Ford for constraints and wait times. I also see the Fanboys singing Fords praise for anything they do, even while people have been waiting well over a year for Broncos, 100k plus F-150s sitting in storage lots waiting on chips and watching as Ford has more and more supply problems well documented in the mainstream news with many of their vehicles with no clear answer or solution.

I get the supply problems on this and other items. What I don't often get is the response and answers from Ford and some of the fanboys. I think Ford has a hit truck on their hands with this Maverick, but I think they also may have rushed out some things too soon and not offered different choices and solutions to some of the problems they are now facing.

What I CANNOT stand is people that keep bringing up the "What do you want or expect from a $20k truck", any time Ford is called to task or we ask why certain options are not available on this truck. I ordered a $28k XL and cant get a stand alone cruise control. My friend ordered a $33k XLT and couldn't get a Sirius radio. Lack of a black leather choice in a $37k Lariat. Constraints on items that could be completed later after the purchase by the dealer instead of holding up an order indefinitely. Can we still use the "what do you expect for a $20k truck excuse when addressing any complaint"? I understand that I bought a truck from the cheaper end of their line, but I didn't buy the bottom of the barrel FWD base model.

The price range on these Mavericks go from $20k up to about $40k. That is a huge swing. In my case, my build is just over $28k. That no longer qualifies my truck as a $20k truck, at least in my mind. Very few people are buying the base model with no options. I would venture a guess the average build is somewhere around $28k. I think people who are paying this much have the right to gripe or talk about without hearing the "what do you expect for a $20k truck comment. If you want to bitch about people complaining that's fine, just don't use the $20k truck argument.

I also think more constraints are going to keep coming, I hope I'm wrong. I am not one of those constantly complaining here every 5 minutes, but I'm afraid that while someone decides to patiently wait for an item on constraint, another will pop up a month or two further down the line, further delaying the order.

As a side note, I will go on the record saying the next constraint will be a sun roof...

Rant over...
i really like this thread. I literally made a rant post and saw this, good to see other people are annoyed.

20k is chump change by new car standards. You can barely get a decent used car these days for 20k. I think people expect way too much from a 20k vehicle, especially in the higher trim models. If you're going to spend almost 40k on a loaded Lariat just remember that most of the hardware to include body panels and the paint job are intended to be shared with a truck with a 20k price point so even though you're spending 40k, you're essentially getting 20k paint and switchgear.

I'm lactose intolerant.
Seems like you are reality intolerant also. Anytime you get a barebones item, handholding is barebones also. If you want constant reassurance go buy a Lexus, Porsche/Audi, etc. where you will have paid to have your hand held.

What you have is the least expensive vehicle out there that has made truck of the year and won in so many categories, and so many awards... that is RARE and all you have is complaints. Maybe you should go wait in another line with the Lexus, Porsche/Audi people. I am sure they will make you feel more comfortable for a higher price and the same wait.

That’s the norm..from my experience with Ford dealers.....wait let me clarify....all dealers
both my trucks come to $28,000
trust me, I’ve pitched a fit... moved to another dealer, checked prices on Nissan Frontiers, was going to look at a Toyota Taco SR....thought about a Bronco Sport....but in the end the Maverick fits my needs including price
ill wait,,,,,
And in this market, if you need a vehicle right away buy something more immediate on payments and then sell it back to the dealer or somewhere like carmax when your Maverick shows up. Carmax might even give you more than what initially paid. Other option is see if the dealer will lease you a vehicle on the lot for nothing more than a monthly payment while waiting on your truck to arrive.

+1, sure $20k is a significant amount of money to most of us, but you have to put it in context. This is the cheapest truck and hybrid on the market, by a significant margin. The sale price of the average new car in the U.S. is currently $47k. When I told a friend how much we were spending on our new truck ($24,300 before TTL), his response was: "no, really, how much is the truck"?

It wasn't tempting at all for us to spend on a lot on options, not because we can't easily afford it, because at it's core this is a budget truck; Slapping $15k of faux leather, a mediocre upgraded stereo, and some stickers wasn't going to upgrade the bones of our budget truck. If I wanted a $40k truck, I'd be looking elsewhere.

Bingo..

People need to go look at the used car prices and the cars the dealer have their lots. 2 years ago you never saw major dealers have cars on their lots with 80-90-100K miles but today there are lots, and prices are insane. Dealer has here in PHX has 3 Toyota Camry, all are LE models, all with 80K+ miles they want more than when the car was new.

So if you can get a new car for 20K plus tax license and fees, you are doing very well. This is why I'm happy to wait for my Maverick, I wouldn't be able to find anything close to what I'm getting for the price new or used.

It's the reason dealers don't hesitate to sell these with a 5k markup and buyers don't hesitate to buy with a 5k markup. Good luck finding anything new or used at this price point that offers as much. People just want to complain.

Why Ford won't be transparent about issues is my main concern. I just called my dealer to drop the bed mat. I think the dealers are tired of us calling to adjust our orders. There was no hint of friendly in the tone of his voice.
Yes instead of Ford moving build dates one after the other, Just tell us production suspended till further notice. I would rather be in the dark than get my hopes up

When I ordered my maverick, I had the salesperson sign my DORA on the agreed MSRP price, I also have an email from them stating no markup or added items.

Our Lariat/Lux/AWD build came to $36- Priced out 45k trucks which I could go out and buy tomorrow but just don't interest me. I will take the Faux leather and compact size all day for a daily driver, light off road ventures and towing a 2500 LB trailer.

I think the average cost of a new vehicle being in the $40k+ range puts things into perspective when comparing to the Maverick, so long as you aren't paying the ADM prices.

I'm dont get the diss saying that dressing up a 20k truck to 40k is still a 20k truck...... Because that's literally every model from major manufacturers. XL/STX is the same frame and panels used on King ranch/Lariat. They just add bells and whistles and every person's use and desires can justify adding or forgoing options.

Given i wouldn't have jumped into a fully loaded Mav if i didn't have the Aplan (34.5k) i still think full msrp is a fair value especially relative to the current market.
