I ordered a Maverick XLT hybrid on September 13th. I have an email from Ford same day confirming they have received my order and I have been working to get paperwork from my dealership to confirm option changes made in mid November. I spoke with my sales person two days ago and she said she would confirm options ordered. I wrote her today to follow-up. She just sent me an email saying she regretted to inform me the dealership is unable to fill my order for a 2022 Maverick and they would send back my deposit and I could order a 2023 Maverick. I've had two conversations directly with Ford support people over the past three weeks and confirmed my order was received and would be filled. Why would a dealership send a note like that to a customer and what could be driving this arbitrary decision to back away from an order they accepted and was submitted, deposit paid, well before Ford stopped taking orders for the Maverick. This doesn't smell right and I'm looking for advice and leads to people at Ford who can help make sense of this out-of-the-blue and upsetting behavior. It's always something.

You email back and tell them that Ford has the order under your name linked to their dealership, and that you look forward to hearing from them when the truck arrives. Remind them that ford audits cases where a custom order like yours is sold to someone other than the person who ordered it. This is why they take a copy of your driver's license. So they have a record that the person who ordered it is real.

Thank you, but what’s the play on the dealership’s part.? We are 21 weeks after order. What’s driving this? They screwed up options request?

They could be hedging on the fact that it will be produced and delivered, even if it's 3 months from now and because it's a Hybrid they will be able to sell it at a significant premium. Sounds fishy to me but I would definitely call Ford corporate.

MSRP + a few $ from you for interior, exterior protection, etc.
Many K$ over MSRP from a different buyer.

Maybe Ford corporate is leading us on...a promise they can't keep. Maybe the dealer is being realistic and Ford is not. Ford stock is down almost 10% on a huge earnings miss because of chip shortages and will last all of 2022. It's wishful thinking that all of us who got in late in the game will see our trucks. We're being played.

One possibility is your dealer still has a lot of June/July/August orders ahead of yours. Based on how many allocations they expect to get over the next few months, they don't expect yours to be scheduled in time. I think this would be a more likely explanation if you had an October or November order, but with chip delays pushing builds back who knows?
