Noteworthy issues after a week of ownership:
  • Well noted on this forum, but DO NOT use the Remote Start feature if you have a Hybrid. Ford needs to fix this as I foresee major issues. Cat convertor glows red hot and all sorts of nasty odors. I hope no long term affects from this issue. Salesman said it was some sort of factory coating burning off. Clearly not.
  • Ford needs to identify which Mavericks have the fuel tank issue. I'm told it's just the Mavericks that came with the spray-in bed liner, but nothing definitive.
  • Needs larger rear wheel wells as brake lines and other components will be exposed to the elements and will cause premature failures.
  • Protrusion under the bed trim on the driver's side as if a bolt wasn't fastened fully underneath (curious if this is just an issue with mine?)
  • Ripples and creases on the doors where the door handles are. I assume this is a part of the stamping process and not necessarily a "flaw"?
  • Regen braking system does not give much user input as to when it's being applied vs. hydraulic brakes. There is no means to adjust the level of "regeness".
  • Atkinson cycle engine runs rough when first engages and under acceleration is rather loud as if exhaust noise is artificially created under the vehicle. Perhaps there is?
  • Base Lariat wheels are next to impossible to clean, lots of nooks and crannies.
  • Tires are too small with tread meant for car or small SUV. I get the purpose (ride quality and low rolling resistance), but not the best look for a truck and inspires no enthusiasm for any thoughts of off-road grandeur.
  • It seems that the cubby next to the Infotainment was an after thought and they shrunk the screen at the end of the design process. Maybe a new and larger screen awaits us?
  • Drive modes reset back to "normal" at start up. More of an annoyance than an issue.
  • Needs a front-end leveling kit
  • Rear view mirror is basically worthless.
  • Back up camera is blurry.
  • Automatic bright headlights are an annoyance and need to be overridden basically every time.
  • Unfortunately doesn't have heated seats or mirrors, maybe these features can be ordered a la carte in future model years.
  • The FX4 package should be made available with the Hybrid in future model years.
  • Lack of fog lights
  • Needs all new speakers (and I doubt the B & O is much better). Most factory radios suffer from poor speakers , but these are especially poor.
Welcome surprises:
  • The faux leather seats are very nice and are likely to last a long time. I was wanting the XLT for those cool tweed retro seats, but glad I sprung for the Lariat.
  • Bronze accents on doors and dash are very classy.
  • Overall interior layout is great with great use of space.
  • The ambient lighting and auto lighting when near the vehicle work well and a welcome addition to the Lariat package.
  • Perfect load height for bed.
  • Great bed light. Super bright and handy.
  • Aluminum roll-up Tonneau cover is very sturdy. You can put heavy objects on top when loading/unloading and I feel like this will hold up in the long term. Does a good job keeping dirt and water out.
  • Ride quality is "truck like" in a good way. Feels sturdy and secure. Perhaps I got one of the good ones as I have read about rattling issues and suspension failures.
  • Oxford white goes very well with the black trim (I was expecting a fleet-type look, but very pleasantly surprised, although I have to wonder what Hot Pepper Red or Area 51 look like on the Lariat.
  • Blissfully simple as ordered without the co-pilot 360.
  • Easy to park and maneuver when compared to other trucks.
  • Center gauge screen is fantastic and dare I say beautiful?
  • Seating height is great, gives a truck-like feel when driving. Love it!
  • Headlights are phenomenal.
  • Easy to get in and out and no need for running boards.
  • No water leaks so far!
Overall Ford is 90% there making this truck a great one. Maybe some of these minor gripes will be addressed in future model years. I hope they are vigilantly reading these forums. :)

Totally agree on FX4 for hybrids. Even with no independent rear suspension I still would have paid for it to get the extra goodies. I think Ford left some money on the table there. Also agree on the auto brights. Nothing but annoying on any car i've had. Seems like it's one of those weird things people think are super important on every car now. Even more annoying when you're driving around a bend and the other person's auto brights don't shut off until a split second after the glare hits you. A human knows to turn them off before the apex

Well I have an engineers mindset. I only had this truck for a few days haha. My goal is to determine if this is a keeper for me long term :) I would say "yes". I really only have the one major complaint about the remote start issue. And would be nice to know if I need a new gas tank.

Sometimes when you know what to look for its best not to look! LoL. . .My plan is to enjoy and not look too hard.

Ford's been very clear about the gas tank issue. If you didn't get a spray-in, you're good to go as there was no need to clear the drain and bolt holes in your bed.

My next one may be the Area 51 paint. Just to get something different. How are you liking it?

Lots to unpack there. Not sure I understand why you think B&O won't be "much" better than stock since you don't have B&O. I've heard stock. It can't get worse, and B&O should be a significant upgrade. Lots of hybrids don't have regenerative braking adjustments - that is more of an EV thing.

The salesman RE the remote start.. he probably means the smells are from a coating burning off, which is not uncommon in new cars. I will be using remote start. The emissions parts warranty is at least 8/80. I'm not concerned with it.

Also, the brake lines on cars - particularly near the wheels - are always exposed. I can't tell you the last time I heard of a failure due to this. They're designed and built to withstand the outdoor conditions.

Love it! I keep going out to just look at it 😂. It really does look different depending on lighting conditions and I'm glad I went with it over CG.

Thank you - as an engineer, enjoy the detail. The remote start catalytic converter problem would bother me the most. I have an XLT 2.0 coming and will be replacing the speakers - easy and relatively cheap, just some time. Drive mode can be adjusted via some programming I’d expect, and the rear view mirror will need to be replaced. I’ll be closing off the wheel wells with aftermarket mud flaps, and assume aftermarket will produce a liner like they do for the F150. Honestly, the concerning one for me is the catalytic converter issue.

My dad will be ordering a hybrid for 2023 when ordering opens and very interested what they address from this list - seems to capture most of what I’ve seen in reviews and this forum.

The brake line specifically will likely accumulate dirt/salt as its right where everything will fling off the tire. There's literally no protection at all. All the trucks and cars I've seen at least have some form of wheel well. And no I haven't heard the B & O system , what I meant is that I doubt it would be worth it for the Luxe package for the radio as well as the heated seats and mirrors. Just would be nice to order a la carte as I would have no desire for the 360 co pilot features .

Looks nicer in low light :) reminds me a lot of my 84 Monte Carlo SS color just a bit more grey and maybe a hint of green. Those non specific aliens! I also have an 83 Monte Carlo SS in white which matches this truck perfectly. Somehow a GM product and a new Ford product don't look too far out of place next to each other. When the weather breaks I need to snap some pics.

My understanding is that if you're in the green on the power meter you're entirely regen breaking. Once you're past the green you're using the traditional brakes.

Re "adjustments" to regen. Eco mode provides significantly more regen and, if you want even more, the L mode provides a ton of regen. You can basically one-foot drive with it on. L also works nicely as a "regen downshift" if you're wanting to slow down without applying the brake pedal.
