Yes indeed - you are spot on with the full synthetic used too early. The engine in a way is over protected and the rings don’t fully seat. Your reflections are further proof and I have followed the rule of letting the oem oil do its job - then switch to a quality synthetic.
Best of luck with your new ride 🇺🇸
Thank you.

What about my Hybrid....It comes with synthetic
I am referencing vehicles in my past and (current non) Maverick rides. As noted, you use whatever Ford recommends of course, but what I have done is leave the oem oil that came in the factory fresh engine - leave it in use around 3000 to 4000 miles then switch to full synthetic.
So if it calls for full synthetic (not a blend), then synthetic it shall be of course. You go with the factory specs.
All the best with your new ride ✔🇺🇸

My practice with new cars/trucks is an oil/filter change after a little more than 500 miles (initial break in). Another about a thousand miles later. Then to the factory schedule.
Consider a small ND magnet from Amazon on the drain bolt (assuming it's not aluminum) and I am shocked at what is on that bolt on the first change..

Here's an interesting comparison of oils. People love one over another often times without good reason. For some, this is worth 10 min. Amsoil wins and Pennzoil Platinum is a close second. Platinum is my go to oil, cheap on Amazon $22 for 5qt jug.

I've never seen an aluminum oil drain bolt. I would expect a magnet on the Ford one, but you never know.

I would hope not.

I changed my first oil here yesterday at 2,200 miles. Switched over to the FRAM Ultra filter and the Amsoil 5w-30 Synthetic signature series... going to run this combo for the life of the truck.

Great choice on oil, the best there is and full synthetic. I see 5w30 is the recommended spec unless extreme cold. In Ohio, I plan to use 5w30.

I never use synthetic blend even if Ford says it's OK. I do only synthetic for turbo and non turbo engines.

Do you know if the Torx bolts for the belly pan are stainless? My '15 Genesis bolts were corroded and half of them snapped off at 3 years old (my purchase date in 2018). There is so much redundancy in the number of bolts, no problem securing the pan. I replaced non broken bolts with stainless and use anti seize on them every oil change. I don't know if Fords have this issue.

When I get my Mav in March, within the first day or two, I will place a magnet on the filter and drain bolt. These pics are from my '21 Rogue I picked up 3 days ago using the Turbo mag. Going to use the Filtermag and a neodymium disc magnet on the Mav drain bolt. These magnets are 15-20 years old.

I don't know if they are stainless steel or not, I actually took the truck to a shop and had them do it with me watching/in vehicle. But I didn't get underneath (sub floor) to inspect that part. I do know all the bolts had threadlocker on and the mechanics had to use some muscle to get everything off first go haha. I'll probably do the second oil change when it comes up. If I get motivated I'll check underneath today and maybe pull one out.

Costco has 6 quart boxes of Mobil 1 oil on sale for $29.99 currently. I picked up a box of the 0w20 for my first oil change that I'm gonna do.

Cool, thanks. If not, I'll find out when I install my filter and drain bolt magnets on day 1.

I read somewhere that the bolts with thread lock don't need to be removed to access the necessary items for the oil change. They're removing the wrong bolts according to at least one post somewhere on this forum.

Just curious. How did you decide on 0w20? I believe 5w30 or 0w30 on extreme cold is the recommended oil?

Oil cap says 0w20 on mine (Hybrid). In fact it’s quite the opposite, hotter climates require thicker oil. Less friction = less heat = less wear.
Hybrid engines are an exception though, they require thin oil to run efficiently regardless of the temperature. I’m probably going to keep using 0w20 until around the 70-80k mile mark then I’ll bump it up either 5w or go with a high mileage blend.

Roger that. Makes sense for the hybrid which I would love to get but all sold out. I bought a 30 acre farm with a 100 year old barn and my neighbors tell me "you need AWD out here" so the hybrid is a no go for me even if it were available.
Interesting that for more than 10 years Honda has called for 0W20 along with many others. Hot climates definitely need thicker oil and cold needs thinner.

Ah, yes. You might need an all wheel drive then. FWD cars don’t like wet mud all that much. If you get the ecoboost Maverick, then oil type is a bit more forgiving and yes you’re right, I think they require 5w30 or 0w30 if it gets below zero where you live.
