Ford Maverick 2022 XL Hybrid
Just picked up my Coyote Desert XL on friday and have put about 90 miles on it so far. Around town I’ve gotten 45 mpg so not too bad. Build quality is pretty solid with this unit. I found a site that let me ordered any Ford accessories at 15% off as a one time purchase so bought some all weather floor mats and a tail gate helper strut. Mine came with an accessory box of doodads for the rear Center console hook. Ford included a dual cup holder, a utility bin, a dual hood, and a ford badge I could put in there . Also in the box was a set of under seat divider insert to space things put although they don’t seem to fit very well.
Also installed a front/rear windshield cam and powered it through the OBD port under the dash for quick connect/disconnect
Waiting on some bike fork mounts to do a makeshift in bed bike holder with some 2x6” plank

Ford Maverick Hybrid XL received. First Impressions. E2830A36-1F22-4068-ABB8-3988022F41B9

People should put their phones down and watch where they are walking…every close call has been an idiot staring at their phone. Besides I am hearing impaired and back up alarms are very painful when I have my hearing aids in.
It’s a soft backup chime not a semi truck reversing beep. You can barely hear it from inside the cab.

Received my Hybrid XL on Thursday! I put about 75 miles on it in the last 24 hours. Mostly highway miles. The mpg is right around 36 so far. I bought and installed the $300 tonneau cover from the realtruck website. Tonneau barely reaches the length of the bed so I plan to add some weather stripping to make a watertight seal where it meets the tailgate.

This is my first hybrid so here's a list of my first impressions:

1. No engine noise on startup. It just shows 'ready to go' on the instrument cluster. Once in drive, it whirrs out a simulated engine sound for pedestrians. In reverse it adds a little chirping noise.

2. Great adjustability in the seat. The one lever pushes the seat higher and forward, the lever behind it reclines the seat. Together with the telescoping steering wheel there is sure to be a perfect seating position for everyone.

3. Pleased with the audio. I like that the back speakers are raised up to ear level in the cab pillars. There are 'driver' and 'all seats' modes which adjust the front to back volume ratio. There is also high, mid, and bass eq adjustment.

4. Ride is smooth and probably more quite than the average sedan.

5. Instrument cluster is clean, it would have been nice if they put digital speed, compass, realtime mpg, and realtime battery charge/use on one screen. Instead I find myself toggling back and forth between the menus using the buttons on the steering wheel. I like that you can access most of the vehicle settings/features via the instrument cluster screen, so you don't have to fiddle with the main touch screen.

6. The back seats aren't bad, definitely not as spacious as an SUV, but I really like the modular 'fits' concept for the back seat. I can slide in the cup holder module if I have passengers, or put in the trash can module if I'm going on a long drive, or take it out if I need the floor space for groceries.

7. Truck bed is sturdy and the tail gate is pretty light. I wanted to install a drop in liner, but it seems like they are out of stock right now. I plan to cut some 2x6's to make a compartment for groceries using the built in diy slots in the sides of the bed. The XL doesn't come with floor anchors, but the holes are there already. Not sure if they are pre tapped.

It definitely has more power than my old 96' manual ranger that barely could get up to 70 mph. More powerful engine aside, the maverick does take me back to the feeling of the good old days.

That's all for now.

I wanted to use my Ford points for a drop-in after I pick up my Maverick, but noticed it isn’t an option on the accessory order page of my dealer anymore. So I may have to wait on that and try not to scratch the bed up in the meantime.

Truck looks good. I still hate how the rear wheel isn’t centered in the wheel well, but rather is placed closer to the front of the vehicle. Very odd.

I also got the email for Ford about the fit kit. Did Ford supply that upon purchase at your dealer?

I’d gladly experience my own minor discomfort of a mellow chime sound, further dampened by being inside my vehicle, any time to prevent killing or injuring someone else.

I'm sorry, but are you saying the Hybrid makes a fake engine noise when it isn't running?

In response to the post, does anyone know how to eliminate the fake engine sound and backup beeper? I don’t want to just start ripping wires out when mine arrives.
Maybe if we could CHANGE the sound so that it would alert others, but not be so annoying to the driver.

It's not an engine noise per say, but in the US EVs/Hybrids after 2020 must emit an audible noise when in motion below 18.6mph to serve as pedestrian warning.

Here's a video of the hybrid backing up. The chirp is barely noticable, this isn't like a dump truck sound. I thought someone mentioned it is directional so you will barely or not even hear it inside. Forward sound is barely noticable either inside. Just enough to get someone's attention if they are close.

Since this is required by law. I wouldn't risk disabling it and getting sued if something happened, phone zombie or not.

Why would you want to make it less safe for pedestrians, kids, visually impaired etc?
The sound is actually there for the driver. To remind you that you are ready to go because otherwise would be silent and you could have in drive or reverse and not realize it.

Unless the Maverick does something Prius-like and beeps obnoxiously in the cabin while in reverse, the noises outside the truck are for pedestrians. It's required by law.

As the driver, if you are "reminded" the truck is in drive or reverse by the noise it is making on the outside it's already too late.

Great Review and good photos. The build date for my XLT Hybrid is the week of Feb. 21st and I can hardly wait. I always wanted a small pickup for just around town things and the Maverick is perfect. And being a hybrid was just icing on the cake.

There certainly is something charming about the simplicity of base Maverick. Takes me back to much simpler times....

I had one of those Rangers. Mine was a '94 with a 5-speed 2WD 4-banger. Required all 98 HP to merge into highway traffic.
