Interestingly
Back in the day, CarMax would buy or take in trade Tesla's and Chevy Bolts, BUT they would NOT buy or accept an EV smart car.
Conventional Ice powered smarts yes.

Keep what you have until the 2028 redesign then see if it's still worth selling. That is unless you want a completely different vehicle now.

I think there is some sort of tax deferral or incentive or something that Carvana takes advantage of.
No, they make their money from financing, not from the actual sale. But, the market is stupid crazy for used cars because the new car market+finance rates suck now.

That makes sense, just like Merkun car dealerships make most of their money in the disservice department, and not with sales.

Feeling like a bit of a genius for taking the 0% deal on the wife's, way inflation has been going it's gonna be like it was 20% cheaper when paid off.

There are a few 2026 Escape PHEV around for $27-28k brand new. Would give up AWD and tow but would get almost $11k back in my pocket and the PHEV capabilities.
Are they reliable though? I thought about one before

Think about $$$$$ = the A10 Warthog 30mm depleted uranium combat round costs $136.70 each, so a mag of 1174 rounds costs just under $160,000. The target practice rounds are only $53.00 each.....
ETA: The combat rounds work out to about $8.880.00/second....

Carmax is nuts too. I had an offer from them for my Tacoma that I shoved in the face of the Ford Salesman before I bought my Maverick. He just sighed and said, "How much did they offer?...OK wow.." (2016 Tacoma Access Cab w/ Tow) $19,500)

I actually think they will make you pay for them to take it😂
decades ago, my girlfriend's father asked about the trade in for his rabbit pickup (yes, they really made that, and it suited his needs for a farm truck just fine).

Flipping through the booklet, $1,450. Less $500 for over 100k, and less $1,000 for diesel."You owe us $50."

"I think I can do better on my own."

yeah, but the guy in the tank will pay several times as much to keep your thumb off the trigger!

😜

Anyway, out of curiosity, I plugged ours into Carvana. 4k hybrid with sunroof, 13,500 miles. It came back with $31,400. (although I left off the tailgate dent from when I managed to ram it with my car hauler . . .)

I just looked diesel rabbit up and found this!=
The Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup—known globally as the VW Caddy—was built from 1979 to 1984 at the Westmoreland, Pennsylvania plant. Featuring unibody construction and front-wheel drive, it offered a 6-foot bed and an 1,100-pound payload capacity. Today, these trucks are sought-after classics, typically selling at auction between $5,000 and $10,000.

Just as a data point: When my Maverick was deemed a total loss after a minor rear-end accident, I was hit in April, I used Carvana to pull comps and successfully argued for a valuation of $29k+.

It was a 2022 FE Lux Copilot Lariat Hybrid with 33k miles. I originally paid $32,500 out the door using family pricing.

It truly held its value well and I miss my Maverick a lot. I was planning on having that for a long long time.

I looked at the newer ones, but they just didn’t hit the same. I tried, but I couldn’t justify the much higher price tag for fewer things I want and more things I don’t.

Yeah, Mav's in general seem to be holding their value pretty decently. I'm very much a "never buy new vehicles" kind of guy, but with the Mav, I was looking at $22K-$24k for a used Mav with 60K+ miles and no warranty, or $30k OTD for a new 2025 XL. I bought new.
