I’d ask for a truck I could actually use or throw a moving blanket down and if I scratch up that bed so be it. As for the $ 500 charge.
I’d not pay it.

But I doubt my dealer would put me in a position like that.

There's an extended warranty on the axles for 22-24 Mavericks as this is a very common issue. As a mechanic at a Ford dealership, we were able to get a pair next day from Ford just a couple of weeks ago. This dealer is definitely screwing you over.
Only 22MY so far, specific build date.

Unless there is something secret on other years.

CV axles are readily available from RockAuto. They're blowing smoke up your arse. There's 3 possible avenues you can take here.
Aftermarket CV axles are worse than the OE ones, although it's not unheard of for a dealer to use aftermarket parts.

Waiting months for parts sucks for the OP, and I can hardly believe Ford doesn't have this part stocked up given the high failure rate + hundreds of thousands of vehicles on the road. I would still be ok with the long term loaner though with the hoops though since all those miles only cost you fuel, which is only a small part of the TCO per mile even at current prices.

Correct.....and it's what I'll do the minute I get it back....But waiting 2 months for parts they know they have an issue with (since they extended the warranty on them up to 150,000 miles) is ridiculous. Those parts should be available.

Yes, I'd be o.k. with the loaner if I were allowed to drive where I want....I will go to Cali for an event twice in June and I can't take the loaner...I really feel Ford should have those parts. It's not a dealer problem; it's a Ford Corporate problem. They continue to churn out new vehicles with those same parts.

They would love to sell you a new truck, but I don't think offer you enough on yours. It won't cost anything to ask.
Nice suggestion, but I'll never buy another Ford after this experience. I feel that they have those parts - they're just using them in new vehicles and my pain while waiting doesn't matter to them. It's a bad strategy for repeat customers.

Yes, but I have to wait to get mine back so I can trade it in......It's not something I'd like to sell private party after. Waiting 2 months is beyond ridiculous.

O/P has a 4 year old Maverick with 40K miles on and is shocked that Ford won't buy it back - but they are fixing it at no charge and provided a no-charge loaner that you did not want due to a restriction on use, then they give you a different loaner that you don't like because you cannot access it easily....if you are looking to get rid of it, did you go out to the front of the house and see what kind of deal they can make for you to get you out of your old Mav and into a new one? Or, did you just sign up here on the 23rd of this month to complain about it?
Well I am complaining but I'm also wondering if anyone else has had the experience to wait 2 months or more (as they can't give a date) for parts. I'm not buying another Ford after this experience......not having parts for a common (yes, they extended the warranty cause they know it's a problem) failure, is unforgivable.

When I was picking up my Maverick two days ago I was in the waiting room with a guy who was getting his vehicle back after a CV replacement. His wait time, 3 days total (bringing it in, ordering the part, replacement). This could be the dealer playing games.

I would call Ford Customer Service (https://www.ford.com/help/contact/) and check on that parts issue. OR ... call another Ford dealer in your area, state that you need a CV replacement and ask if you brought it in, how long would it take for them to get parts.

I certainly understand the frustrations as I have had my Mav in the shop for a month (both front struts and control arms replaced) but to think you are not going to see recalls, part shortages, etc. from ALL other manufacturers is insane.

Truth be told, EVERY manufacturer does this. It's not unique to Ford.

Did you read the OP or immediately jump to complaining? She made it clear that

1) they use the bed of their maverick, so not beign able to is a major inconvenience.
2) the dealer is claiming this repair will take MONTHS, when parts are readily available
3) the alternative provided is a Bronco, which is much larger and difficult for OP and her husband to get in and out of.

There's no reason to be so hostile to new users and meatshield for Ford. Ford is a megacorp, they do not care about you. A 3 month wait for a CV shaft would be utterly unacceptable from Asian or European brands.

I hope this is a joke. Americans waste SO much money on throwing away perfectly fine cars to sign up for more debt on newer cars. Spending $40k to repalce a vehicle that needs $200 in parts is an objective waste of money.

Doubtful, if the OEM ones are failing this early, that third party could be any worse.

If this were a Toyota? Sure, you'd have a point there. But the Mavbrid CV shafts are notoriously garbage.

The reason they don't have the part is precisely because they have a high failure rate. And the new part is redesigned. Believe it or not, there is a vendor issue on a lot of parts for a lot of vehicles. It seemed to have started around the time COVID-19 came about. And it has only gotten partially better.

The same vendor makes the same CV axles for Hyundai. Mysteriously, Hyundai doesnt have these rampant CV boot failures.

This points to either Ford demanding a cheaper design that fails too soon (they have a history of doing this) or they are using the part out of spec and were forced to redesign it due to constant failures.

I don't know why. Different specs, different machining. Different quality control. Any number of reasons.
