Over a year ago I broke one of the fobs at the key hinge (don't know where the key is either) and have been just using the 2nd fob. The 2nd broke last week in the same spot (horrible design/quality). I saw the thread from the locksmith and have already ordered 2 of the chip keys. Everything was fine for a few days until last night I got a no key detected but after several tries got it working. I thought maybe the fob battery was going so I got the 2nd fob. It started no problem this morning but this afternoon I can't get past it. I have both fobs and they unlock, lock the car, and were able to remote start (now that doesn't work and Fordpass says to many attempts, drive the vehicle).

I tried disconnecting the battery for a while, I tried charging the battery (2.5 years of deep sleep issues but always started) but I can't get past it. I have tried only one fob in the car, no phone, all sorts of position, no dice.

Any ideas before it gets towed to the dealership?

I already have an appointment for a couple of weeks from now to have the hybrid battery replaced (voltage errors on and off, warranty is covering it). I have loved the truck but it is feeling like death by a thousand cuts. I have had the axles replaced, deep sleep from the beginning (been hoping firmware would fix it), the hybrid voltage issue on and off off the last six months. The second key bob I broke when I was using it to try and unlock the tailgate which still won't open.

Lay the fob in the console indentation where you place the fob to make a new key. That is where the fob can be read independent of any battery or other problems. The problem is most likely not the fob but is with the truck side of the handshake (maybe worth a try, at least).
Maybe put one fob in the console and put other key in ignition. I think you have several seconds to take key out of console and turn key in ignition.

Find a local locksmith or hardware store to make you 2 extra keys or fobs.
(is your remote start on the fob or Fordpass, your comment makes me wonder)
And a cut blank without the transponder or fob.
This will likely be much cheaper than dealer would do it.
They keys you ordered, you got a place to cut them already?
Should still work, hopefully didn't buy the cheapest.

You still have 2 good admin keys/fobs it sounds like - so you can program the truck to learn the 2 new fobs.
Not sure the center storage method will be your method since on XLT though.
Do you have keyless-entry?

But since key is broken on fob, you'll need to use the cut blank to turn the ignition during the steps. No transponder should be seen by ignition on that key.
And you'll have to hold each fob up by the ignition so it's seen during the process, then inserting your own when it's time.

It turns out I was an idiot and wasn't holding the FOB close enough to the ignition.

I had keep the key when it was towed to the dealership so I would have it for the locksmith to cut the blank I ordered. I had that done this morning and dropped the key off at the dealership. The guy at the dealership started it right up.

Long story short technique matters, it has to be tight up against the column. Now I will have to see if I can get the blank chip key I ordered and had cut to get programmed in.

I tried the instructions from this thread but it didn't work but I will read the whole thread and see if I can figure out what I am doing wrong:
