I was originally shopping for a Lariat, but landed on an XLT with blackout and lux packages as it was an end-of-month deal and the dealer made it worth my while. Quite happy as this was a great compromise of options vs price level, but If I ordered from scratch - deals aside - I would lean back to the Lariat for the few options I missed out on like adaptive cruise, etc..

Don't like the lobo other than the interior colour, and the tremor is nice but not the point of these trucks IMHO - all image, no substance.
That totally makes sense. I have seen a lot of people do this same exact thing. XLT plus the add ons seems to be a very common build option.

Do you have a picture of yours right now? Have you done anything to it?
I haven't done anything too crazy as it's my daily. Rough County 1" level and upsized tires. It's quite capable I must say though!

I needed to borrow an XL Eco Boost for a weekend trip because my own full size truck was temporarily unavailable. After that trip I felt the XL Eco Boost Maverick was the ideal truck for me. My needs have changed and I really don't need a full-sized truck anymore. At that time, new XL's were on a sales hold for a recall, so I started looking at used Mavericks. I found a nice low mileage used Lariat Hybrid for about the same price as a new XL, so I went for it. I really like this truck and the added features of the Lariat package. I have put close to 20,000 miles on it and it has only needed routine maintenance, no problems at all!
Dam! Well congratulations on the hardest part lol. I have seen so many people struggling going from a full sized to a maverick!

She's pretty! No need to do to much, I think it looks nice!! I don't like the factory rake at all but since I tow and go camping I don't want to level mine :(. Not to clear in this photo but that's the squat that ends up happening lol

I'm not surprised that the XLT is a bigger seller, because dealers love to sell upgrades, but when you look at what you get, is it really worth it?

You get an "upgraded" interior in the XLT, but I liked the XL better. Personal choice.
I drove both because there were no XL hybrids on the lot, but I liked the seats better on the XL.
I prefer manual seats, others don't.

You get an easier to steal push to start instead of a more secure keyed option.
That was "key" for me and pun intended.

You get upgraded wheels that can be easily upgraded to whatever you like.

You get a trailer hitch with just a 4 pin connector in the XLT.
I got both 4 and 7 pin connectors with the 4K on my XL with a brake controller.

Bed tie-downs are included in the XLT, and I added, the bed is just waiting for someone to install them.

A 400W in-bed power outlet, is included but if I wanted that, I could buy a better inverter myself.
The XL has 12 volts in the bed already gthat can be used for that.

The XLT also has bed lighting that I got for free with my bed cover.

About the only advantage I could see is the ability to add package, which would be a good reason if I wanted any of those options, but I didn't.

For less money, I ended up with what I consider to be a more capable vehicle.

Totally makes sense! You buy "lariats"? Does that mean you have multiple mavericks?!?
[/QUOTE We’ve owned 4, currently own 2 and our son has one. Wife’s is a 24 HPR hybrid lariat, mine is a 25 eruption green hybrid AWD 4K tow and son bought a 25 hybrid XL. Tried talk son in buying a lariat but he didn’t want the bigger payments, now he’s wishing he’d gone Lariat.

I didn't want to want a Lariat, but had been determined to get advanced cruise control. I might have dithered another year or bought used, but appearance of 4k tow AWD hybrid made me wanna jump on one before it went away or got impossible to find.

Barring accidents, the only thing I see me wanting to trade in/up for is a PHEV version with same features.

I thought I was going to dislike the seats, but having had full, real leather seats in the past, and original vinyl seats, these are different. They seem to mitigate the hot and cold disadvantages. Not burn skin hot in summer, and you don't get soaked sitting on them, a bit damp maybe, but nowhere like a sealed vinyl. Then they don't feel as cold in winter, seem to have low thermal mass and start insulating you or reflecting your body heat back some. There was only one vehicle I have been in a few times I can compare it to, and that was an old Mercedes that had these kind of wicker texture perforated vinyl, so it was more breathable than regular.

Only thing I'd change now if options were individual is SiriusXM delete, because fuck 'em that's why.

Dam! Well congratulations on the hardest part lol. I have seen so many people struggling going from a full sized to a maverick!
I just retired an Explorer that was explicitly purchased to be my gateway truck.

Previously owned a 1992 Eddie Bauer Bronco, then a 2004 F150 Lariat Supercrew, and loved them equally for well over 10 years each. But when I moved out of the Rocky Mountains into a coastal city, I didn't 'need' a full size anymore, and parking the F150 SC in an 'old' city with tight streets was a real PITA!

I bought a used 2009 Ford Explorer XLT because it was too cheap to pass up, and I figured it would quickly prove if I could learn to love a mid-size or compact truck. It too was a great truck, although I ultimately missed the luxuries of the Lariats, and the bed utility. When the Hybrid Mav finally came available with AWD option in 2025, I started shopping.

Caveat that I'm nearing retirement, and I could probably be tempted back to an F150 REV or similar in a few years - once I don't have to work in the city and may end up back in 'camper/trailer' territory again. It's hard not to love the interior space of a full size...

If I could have bought an XL hybrid lobo as a standard option I would have. My maverick hybrid is used as nothing more than a car with an open air trunk.

I've seen lots of people talk about this have you considered getting a tonneau cover so that its at least a regular trunk?

If you reordered your Maverick TODAY… what trim are you picking?
(SINCE SO MANY PEOPLE VOTED AND DISCCUSED ECOBOOST VS HYBRID I THOUGHT WHY NOT ASK THIS)

  • XL
  • XLT
  • Lariat
  • Tremor
  • Lobo

And did owning your current one change your opinion at all?

I feel like when these trucks first came out everyone thought one trim was clearly the “best” depending on budget/use, but after actually living with them for a few years now I feel like opinions changed a lot.

XL:
• cheapest/simple
• steelies honestly became part of the Maverick look at this point
• probably the best blank canvas
• but also missing a lot of stuff people later wish they had

XLT:
• feels like the trim most people ended up buying
• solid middle ground
• better looks/features without getting too crazy on price
• probably the “safest” choice overall

Lariat:
• definitely feels the most complete
• nicer interior/tech/features
• best daily driver?
• but the price climbs FAST

Tremor:
• one of the coolest looking trims Ford made honestly
• feels way more aggressive from factory
• some people love it
• other people think it’s overpriced and would rather build an FX4 themselves

Lobo:
• probably the most controversial Maverick now
• some people think it’s sick Ford finally made a street version
• others think lowering a truck completely defeats the point 😭

What’s funny is I feel like BEFORE ownership everyone shops based on price…

But AFTER ownership people care way more about:
• comfort
• looks
• daily driving
• practicality
• uniqueness
• whether the trim still feels worth the money later on

So if you could reorder today what trim are you going with?
Does this mean that you would stay with the same trim you have now?

I went with the Lariat for a bunch of reasons. The seats are more comfortable (for me), I wanted the moon roof and I also wanted the power sliding rear window for my GSD fur missile. She loves to lay her muzzle on the center head rest and watch what's happening behind the truck. With the hybrid, I get between 40-50mpg around town and around 38mpg on the highway. With the 4K tow package, I can still haul rocks, dirt, and other landscape materials and I no longer am saddled with the 17mpg of my old GMC Sierra. No complaints here; just smiles!

Definitely fits your needs! Your lucky my fur goblin. Wants to see what it feels to be in the driver seat at all times. She wants to look at my pedals, the gauge cluster, and while he is at it wants to drive lol.
