So I got out of my 2024 XLT hybrid with the vehicle off, but the keys were still in the ignition and closed the door to show my brother in-law my new truck. I was excited and wasn’t thinking…

Luckily I had the window down so I could hit unlock (my phone was also inside so the app wouldn’t have helped). I thought most newer vehicles wouldn’t fully lock with the keys in the ignition. That’s how it is for my wife’s Rogue and for my 2017 civic.

can anyone confirm the auto lock system for mavericks? I’m surprised that it locked on me

AUTOLOCK
WHAT IS AUTOLOCK
Autolock is a locking feature that locks
your vehicle doors when you start driving.
AUTOLOCK REQUIREMENTS
Autolock locks all the doors when all of the
following occur:
• All doors are closed.
• The ignition is on.
• Your vehicle reaches a speed greater
than 12 mph (20 km/h). <-- only thing my Mav wasn't moving

I cannot confirm anything.
I'm actively reading up on how the auto locking is supposed to work because
I just got locked out of my Maverick while at the car wash.

My phone was in the truck so I could not easily make a call and Ford Pass is not on the phone I carry.

Keypad saved me.

Not sure why it happened but if i can reproduce it, i'll do a follow up post.
Seems like it auto-locked while it was in park with brake applied...
key was in ignition ... matter of fact I am sure it was on.
I had just pulled out a stall to dry it off,.

Anyhow ... if i did something stupid, i'll post that too - i'm pretty good at missing the manual door locks though.

EDIT****
Had to be me hitting manual lock.
I just tried to lock doors (electronic) with key in ignition and it makes an obvious double-honk.
But if push the manual lock, i was able to lock myself out with vehicle running, in park, brake applied.

So...i guess i just did a stupid mistake with the manual lock.
Will do better :)

This happened to me today. But mine was running with key in ignition in a driveway. My phone was also inside. I got out to change my shoes (other side of car).. bizarre to me that it’s possible to lock your car doors while parked and it’s running. Error proofing should prevent this. Even my 02 Nissan would never lock if key in ignition. My spouses 17 Jeep won’t lock if the key is inside the vehicle just proximity based.

and if your phone is inside you can’t even use fords roadside option. Siri CarPlay has no connection to fordpass either. It’s kind of worrisome. I installed the ford pass app on wife’s phone so she can unlock in future if this happens. Need to consider keypad now…

One reason why Ford should have not gotten rid of the keypad.

Had it happen to me however my Tremor came with the door pad. You might as well get the optional one Ford sells. I think Ford sells them. I thought I read other post of individuals installing them. It will be the best add on you will ever do.

I will have to remember I have the app on my Apple Watch just in case I lock my keys and phone in the truck. I have not tried to lock myself out yet but I have heard the double horn once when I left the fob in my jack inside the truck and I touched the lock on the handle. I opted not to get the stick on keypad on my my24 lariat hybrid.

The manual lock only locks the door you push it on at least one of the other three will remain unlocked. You can lock key fobs inside the truck if you use a different key fob while outside the truck or use the key pad.

Interestingly, I have found mine locks the driver door if I walk away with the fob left inside, but not the back doors?

I also got a few extra door keys made for my primary house ring, and my motorcycle ring, so i can quickly grab something out of the truck or bed without the fob. Also hid one on the truck in case I ever got locked out completely.

Welcome to the forum. The truck does not have the ability to electronically lock just one door. You are hitting the manual lock lever as part of either opening the door with the latch or pushing the door open. @Glen Baker LLC should be along with a helpful image shortly.

Aha, that explains it. Didn't even realize that manual lever was there?! lol

One of the things that sold me on the Mav (2023 Lariat) was the keypad. Had this on some other vehicles and liked it.

Glen is busy it seems, so this one pic works for anyone else that has the driver door only is locked suddenly.

Have a good one,

Andy

Welcome to the MTC, I figure you ran across one of the common "issues" and now know what happened.

Now, I don't know how long you have been checking out the forum so here is a heads up from a fellow hybrid owner...

It seems our trucks have trouble charging our 12 volt battery properly.

@Mavster Mechanic has observed (using a Scanguage 3) that turning on your headlights whenever driving (DRL won't suffice), or plugging a 12 bulb led light into the trailer light electrical connection makes the truck up its game and provide a more appropriate charge level to the system and 12 volt battery.

Constantly undercharging the 12 volt battery greatly contributes to a short battery life and this is an easily accomplished work-around we all can utilize...If we want to.

Have a great day, and that is a nice looking truck in your Pic!

Andy
