I would like a Diesel-Electric maverick please.
I'd be fine if they just gave the gas hybrid a bit more pep to match the Ecoboost.....and fixed its charging issues. And gave us the PHEV version that they could build, since the Escape has it. And the 10 way seat the escape has.....

Basically for the price it should match its stable mate!
Personally I think the tacoma hybrid is just a bad hybrid and doesn't make the idea of hybrids in midsized trucks a bad one you just need to change how you do them ie a larger battery and very likely a plug in. Because while yes the mpg would be similar to a normal ice truck when the battery dies if you are able to get 30 to 40 miles of range out of the battery you can cover most daily driving needs. At the end of the day though it comes down to the use case at least for me a plug in midsize would mean nearly all battery commuting while having the power and range to tow for trips and what not. Really I just want to see more options for non standard trucks in the US market.
Trucks get awful range on EV batteries. Consider how large of a battery you would need to get 40 miles out of a midsize BoF truck. At bare minimum, you would need a 20kWh battery, but that doesnt include any safety margin for the battery, nor the loss of efficiency from having to include a whole second powertrain in the vehicle. So more likely 25-30kWh, a battery like that takes significant size and is expensive.

Even in Europe with its absurd fuel costs, the PHEV trucks are not popular, because they cost a ton and dont get very good mileage completely offseting the fuel savings from the EV unless you never go over the range of the battery, and at that point you just buy an EV truck instead.

We could also start making trucks that are more efficient in their design. And the plug in hybrid ranger already gets around 30 ish miles of all electric driving and even if you do need to run the engine for a bit during your commuting doing 25 miles on battery and 5 on gas is going to be more efficient then 30 on gas alone.
And in terms of offseting the savings when not using the battery the midsize trucks now aren't getting good mpg just using their engine. Like we aren't talking about comparing an ice midsize that does say 30 ish on the highway to a phev that does 20 we are comparing an ice that does like 25 to a phev that does like 22 or 23. I also don't think it is as simple as just get an ev truck because as you just said batteries are costly so you are only going to make that problem worse, There is also range concerns with towing. Overall I would like to end up in an ev truck but I think it is going to take a few gens for them to come down to a price and size I want and in the meantime I would love a phev truck. Either something like the mav or a midsize. Though I worry we are derailing the thread lol.

It takes significant work to make a truck "more efficient". Gaining even a single MPG on vehicles that weigh 2.5 tons and stand 6' off the ground isnt easy, if it were Toyota would have done it already. That's also why when towing I get the same MPG as modern trucks, when you are doing hard work, you're gonna need the energy in the fuel and there's no way to get around that demand.

For those who mostly stay in the PHEV's battery range, there are cheap EVs that fill that category, that's why the PHEV just doesnt make sense. We're not even getting into expensive EVs here.

At the end of the day, its a truck. They are not efficient. If you want efficient, then either get a car or the hybrid Mav, that's about the best you can do. The war against physics isnt going to let up anytime soon.

Hence why you shouldn't give up on your Mav. If efficiency is important to you, buying something that gets low 20s is not gonna be nice at all. The Mav is just about as big as a hybrid makes sense efficiency wise, and its the best we'll be getting. That and modern build quality is just awful across the board, even luxury brands struggle, so if you do decide to sell, you're likely going to run into issues no matter what you buy. The demon you know is better then the demon you dont.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree but yeah I think you make a good point in terms of keeping the mav since it is the best option from an efficiency stand point as really is it the main option that is really trying.

So I recently got a 2026 ford maverick hybrid lariat and it is replacing a 2025 in the same spec that was totaled so I thought I knew what I was in for with mavs. You know the scuffy plastic and what not but this new mav has basically broken me. It started with a slight buzz in the drivers door then maybe a slight one in the b piler and then the dash and now I have theses buzzes all around it feels like and worst of all this is the sorta tapping rattle coming from the passenger side. I can't for the life of me seem to be able to track it down and worst of all it seems to go away and then come back so I really have no ideas.
Now one I think it is a pretty bad look for a truck that costs this much but beyond that I am hyper sensitive to noises and to be frank I don't want to drive it anymore and when I do I have to do things like blast music or roll the windows down to help(note it really doesn't solve it so please don't recommend doing this). It has gotten so bad that on some drives I have to pull over and calm down for a bit.

So with that background here is the problem I am not sure if I should:
A.Keep the truck and work on fixing these noises and rattles with a combo of sound deadening material and foam and tape.
B. Sell the truck and get something with a more solid interior that is less likely to make noises
C. something else I don't even know.

The problem I have with A is that I am not sure I can fix them or if more will appear. Can long term owners give their thoughts? Do the rattles and noises get worse because if so I think cutting my loses soon may be a option to strongly consider. However I don't love option b either because one it would mean losing money and 2 there is nothing else like the maverick and I honestly don't know what I would buy.

Overall I want to love this truck I really do as on paper it is almost prefect for my life and needs because it can get such great gas mileage while still being able to haul stuff for work and hobbies. But these noises and quailty issuses are making me start to wish I didn't buy this truck. So any thoughts? Anyone else go through something similar and if so what choice did you end up making? I also just want to add this here at the end I am not trying to bash this truck or anything I am simply looking for advice as to what I should do.
Without sitting in truck and hearing noises it’s hard to say what noise are from as my 4 Maverick have never had a buzz. One of mine did have rattles in dash, dealer went in tightened
All screw and bolts and noise went away. I had a F150 that had a tapping noise on passenger side and come to find out it was front passenger seatbelt buckle tapping against B pillar. Then my 4th maverick started rattling around windshield discovered it was garage door remote clipped to sun visor. So noise can come from strange sources

make them fix it - pronto - and no don't sell it you'd be losing some $ on that and even if you got another one after losing money on the current one and you drove it for 2 days and it was quiet does not mean on day 5 it's not going to buzz. Be persistent - your salesperson who earned the commission needs to come thru for you. Likely just somethings that didn't snap in place or screwed down properly when assembled. It's not up to you to personally decipher and fix it - that's Ford's job.

Turns out ours has zero rattles, squeaks or weird noises. Maybe I lucked out ...
You must have, or the pavement where you live is perfect! For me the first year it wasn’t too bad, just the odd rattle, but now at all most 4 years old, there are more and more rattles as time goes on.

MY24 had only the windshield rattle and I cut the two alignment tabs off. Quiet over all roads and paths ever since. It’s a bit irritating to hear about inconsistencies in build quality. I’m ok with a few rattles once my vehicle is ten years old, but not when new.

Whatever you decide, a thorough pre-purchase test drive is a really good idea.... 😉

It’s all about relative experience. My previous vehicle was a 2017 Frontier, growly V6 and lots of wind noise. My 24 Lariat hybrid is vastly quieter. I agree with others who say life is too short to be constantly annoyed by something.

Yeah I get the window rattle when it’s cold in the winter, not a problem most of the year. For me it’s mostly the door panels. I’d likely have to take them apart and put sound deadening to stop the plastic from rattling in the area near the speakers. Maybe I’ll get the gumption to do it someday, it’s not a make or break thing for me, ever car has its rattles.

I think every car I've ever had has had some kind of noise or rattle that I couldn't always readily pinpoint. Most the time the noise or rattle was small and insignificant but being able differentiate between a insignificant rattle and a severe engine or suspension problem is key. I have a friend who has a brand new Lexus and it makes a rattling sound at low speeds that hasn't been identified yet but I wouldn't lose sleep over a few rattles. I know it seems maddening at times but I usually have my radio on so they don't bother me nearly as bad.

Agree with the poster suggesting warranty and test drive with a Ford Technician. I have a '25 Lariat Hybrid that has a door rattle when playing music with deep bass. Had it into the dealer and they initially said all the others on the lot do the same thing. Went to a different dealer and they at least tried to fix it - twice. Contacted Ford customer service and was offered a buy-back. If the dealer can't fix it and you want out, at least the buy-back may be an option. I like the truck too much for that so will live with the rattle on a few songs for now but will likely try additional door sound deadening at some point.
