I've got 73k on my 8 speed. I've had maybe 3 or 4 clunks here and there at parking speeds. No other issues with shifting at other speeds. Love the sport mode. I always set the parking brake. Blows my mind how many people don't. It's not about stopping your car from rolling away, it's about avoiding the weight of the car "resting" against the parking gear and the force it takes to dislodge it. Even the slightest grade will cause this. Not a transmission killer, but not good either.

Also, don't follow the fluid change schedule from Ford. I did mine at 60k. Some say 30k, but I don't tow much.
Just curious - "parking speeds"?

Seems like that should be 0, but that makes it sound like not 0.

Ditto's to parking pawl. Not made as tough as years ago - I'm sure there was a lot of savings put in that whole system.

Yeah. Bad wording on my part. I was waiting to be questioned about that! I DO NOT shift while moving to be clear. Just asking for trouble. I should have said something like "while shifting from a parked position."

"Seems like 0." Classic

We've probably all ridden with enough people that don't make it 0, out of habit.
They probably rarely stop at stop sign on right turns either.
And need to take corners so fast they are in the oncoming traffic lane on 3 lane roads for a bit.

Clunking into gear, that's it. It's over. I'll give you $7,000 for it out the door. 😁
Pretty generous offer for a Maverick with a nearly failed transmission...

You might just have one of those experiential transmissions manufactured by BMW motorcycles, (only BMW riders will get that one).
Every motorcycle I've ever ridden clunks into gear.. It's due to the clutch design.

So, I'm rolling up to my driveway and had to pull up to the side since I have a Mi-Box storage pod in the way blocking the garage door's reception. After getting it open, when I put my truck in reverse, it clunked into gear which it's never done before. Putting it into drive and park was fine but I did not like what it did in reverse.

Isn't that a sign of transmission failure? I've heard that's a common issue with the EB 8-speeds. It only has a little over 12,000 miles and I treat the transmission like glass for that reason. I'm not one of those types who puts it in gear while it's still rolling. I make sure to come to a complete stop before changing gear.

Ironically, I was thinking to myself how good of a truck it's been and then this happens right afterwards. Hopefully I didn't jinx it.
Most likely your driveway if it's a little inclined may have caused the truck to roll a bit while in park. That's usually a hard clunk when shifting gears. I always engage the parking brake before I shift into park etc.

Been riding 60 years and nothing clunks like a BMW. They're noted for it.

Having never ridden a BMW bike, I am unable to judge the "clunk" comparison.
Perhaps there is a difference between a BMW and Hondas, Suzuki's, and Kawasakis, but they also every one, clunked. It's not so much the transmissions themselves, as the entire chain drive that clunks when the clutch remains spinning and the transmission no longer does.

I suspect it's not so much BMW vs other makes as much as it's shaft drive on the "R" series vs chain dive on many other makes which include the BMW "F' and "G" series.
