Not sure why some folk can’t accept that many of us find the prop rod too short.

Did the OP claim he was going to sell his truck because of the short prop rod? I could understand how THAT could set off alarms bells for some folks - but the OP seemed genuinely curious.

Maybe the OP should have read the previous posts regarding this topic instead of starting a new one? I guess so, but it really isn’t a big deal is it?

Yeah...I hear you. The ONLY reason I commented and made a joke of it is because I have LITERALY never heard anyone mention ANYWHERE....in person or on a truck or car forum that the hood prop on their vehicle was too short. And of course...I've heard a BUNCH of complaints from diesel truck and boat owners about everything under the sun. I was just amazed and thought it was kind of a funny/petty complaint...but not going toe to toe with the OP or anyone if that's what they really feel.

Oh I think it is too short in the short person hole.

That's why if I'm doing anything that lasts longer than a minute I use the tall person hole. I don't complain or spend extra money on it.

One of the first things I did to my new Lobo. Have always used Red Line struts.
Did you have any issues with any of the brackets not fitting when you installed Redline struts? Also, did you have to reroute the windshield wiper fluid line? (I just started a separate thread on this; I should have just kept it here.)

Our steering columns and front seats are adjustable to fit most body shapes and sizes.

However, the prop rod is one size fits all. Therefore, someone pushing 5 feet tall should be able to use it without using a step stool etc.

When my Lobo is up on ramps for an oil change - I use a step stool to pour the oil. The OEM prop rod is fine when my truck is up on the 7 inch ramps…

The hood has a wonderful range of motion - it can be raised high enough so that a 7 footer won’t bump his/her head.

I also like the double latch hood release - no fumbling to find a lever under the hood. But that is going off topic sorry.

The OEM prop rod is perfect for some. Others may need a step stool and others benefit from a taller homemade or aftermarket prop rod (a fool such as I).

Anyway, it’s a wonderful world…

Totally agree that’s why I installed the Redline Tuning Gas Hood Shocks - the hood opens a few more inches and eliminates the need for the prop rod. Very good quality and a smooth hood lift assist.
I like this mod! I've owned cars before that came with this kind of setup from the factory and it was so satisfying and easy to open the hood.
I totally don't need this, but I like fun things.

I've ready other places that some of these caused hood opening/closing issues, have you had any such issues?

Some people also worry that having to pull down on the aluminum hood might damage it. Any concerns there?

This is the first vehicle I ever owned that I didn't even look under the hood for literally months after buying it. I kept thinking to myself, "There could literally be a squirrel under there and I wouldn't know it!" but I just never did.

I looked under the hood of other hybrid Mavericks at the dealer, but when I picked this one up, I just never thought to do so, and then I kept thinking about it at the wrong time.

Eventually I needed to top off washer fluid.

I once did it all, including dropping transmissions and pulling engines, but now I have a full-time job and I pay other people to do this stuff, so I'm less likely to be living under the hood these days.

So yeah, the prop-rod is fine for me, but I like to accessorize my ride. It is a disease I have.

They reach all the way to the ground, so I reckon they're the right length🤷‍♂️

Now my arms are another thing.

Legs are long. When you sit at a table with a bunch of adults - you’ll note their heads are all pretty much at the same level.
Only when everyone stands up do you notice the height difference.

Upper bodies are fairly standard, but the longer legs will lead to a hood bump on head.

And since longer legs are usually accompanied by longer arms - a taller person does not need to lean over as far when accessing the engine. More head bump potential there too.

I think all vehicles should come with a hood piston rod instead of a prop rod.
Obviously the manufacturer is just trying to save a few bucks.

Was any drilling needed to install the Redline Tuning Gas Hood Shocks?

Prop rods and hydraulic hood struts share the same issue - they will be fine for “most” folks.

But if you are shorter than “most”, you’ll benefit from a step stool. If you are taller than “most”, a longer aftermarket or homemade prop is beneficial.

Sherlock Holmes would correctly deduce that the OP is taller than “most”. He could deduce other things about the OP that are beyond my powers though:)

My arms are just the right length, don't judge.

I have the same problem with off the rack shirts if they aren't tall. They fit fine with my arms at the my sides.
The minute I reach for the steering wheel or anything else.👇👇
