Cracked Windshield Thanks to Carwash

Looks like there is a small chip in it. The expansion of the windshield from the warm water probably led to the crack. I’d go get it drilled out at the end before it gets worse. I didn’t do that to mine and it spread like crazy. Right now yours isn’t too bad.

What I don't like is the hood is very thin.

The air dryer jets actually push my hood down and make it concave.

But I'm thinking flexing the hood is not great for the paint. How much rubber do they put in the paint?

The chip came from the carwash. I plan to have entire thing replaced.

In talking with my wife, seems the carwash place did take a claim. Said they would email or call for next steps. Given that the crack is in view of the lane centering camera, the entire thing will have to be replaced. Safelite quoted me roughly $1,000 for the job.

I run mine thru the carwash probably twice a week (unlimited monthly subscription plan), and while I've watched the hood deform a LOT, never had a concern about the windshield. No insurance coverage?

This is why I only go to no touch car washes. Not as effective, but sure are damage-free....

Windshield glass is a bit thinner these days: less weight = more MPG, they say.
Saves you money, they say.

Do that. I went from a $200 deductible to $0 for like $12-$15 every 6 months.

Sucks for sure, but most auto-wash places have signs posted everywhere stating they are not responsible for damage. If you can prove some kind of negligence, you might have a case. Otherwise, you are at their goodwill, or lack there of....

I got $0 deductible glass coverage added when I found out the price of the rear sliding window in the 22 Maverick, for like an extra $75/year?

If there is a microscopic chip or a deep scratch already present, the high-pressure water can find its way into that void. The force of the water acts like a wedge, pushing the glass apart from the inside out.

$1,131.66 for full replacement from Safelite. The windshield and labor are only $464. $40 to recycle the glass. The rest is the recalibration of the camera. I also figured I was all-in and so I am having them go ahead and Rain-X treat it while they are here. That was only $45 so it is worth it to me.

I'll post after pictures when they are done on Tuesday.
