Engineering Explained Fuel Economy, Ford Maverick Ecoboost vs Hybrid (timestamped)

There's alot of people changing their AFE Bias (Actual Fuel Economy Bias) because we all know the gauge is a Lie-o-meter. Engineering Explained posted a video of his AWD ecoboost and his new AWD Hybrid. I was surprised by his results on how not far off the MPG was on both under 30% city and 70% highway. 32MPG on EB, 36.6MPG. I took a screenshot of the methodology of testing in his video shown below. Either way I'm excited to welcome the hybrid Mavs to our circle. You have the best Mav Hybrid out of anyone! Also the Engineering Explained video is full Ford Maverick and was a ton of fun to watch for anyone. PS. the 0 to 60 between the two is closer than you might think too ;)

Yes same gas pump, but seriously how scientific is that? When you're pumping only a gallon, there can be a large error introduced.

More miles / gallons and more tests to reach any true conclusion.

Do you think using the same gas pump and the doing the run in both directions has any merit?

That’s not surprising at all given that the large majority of miles were highway.
True. but consider the majority of people who purchase a vehicle and how they actually drive. Do the short trip people overtake people who travel short trip and longer distances? Its a big country so maybe should make a poll on city vs highway driving.

I’m probably 60/40 city to highway but most of the time I’m in the city. The highway miles I pick up going to soccer tournaments or traveling to visit family or vacation.

Well no something that rhymes with mitt. The hybrid on the highway doesn't really make much if any use of the electric mode. Hybrids works best in city conditions or heavy traffic where you it makes better use of the electric mode.

A little secret you learn on the streets to get better gas mileage in the city, it's a called a syphon pump and someone else's gas tank.

I’m more like 10-15% city, 5% interstate and the rest is back country highways all about 55-65 mph.
At only about 250 miles a week I’m golden,
In my Ecoboost.
I fuel up once a week with a range of about 450 miles, so I’ll call it a half a tank a week.
Give or take, accuracy means little.

The higher the speed the closer the two trucks become.

At 75 MPH they are virtually the same.

The slower you go, the hybrid pulls away like crazy.

I get 54 MPG city week after week. Month after month. Tank after tank.... 800 miles sometimes on a tank... at 30 MPH average speed.

Yes in a drag race they are almost the same too.

This one about 33 MPH.

But a lot of stoplights. A lot of standing still with the clock running.

Accuracy means little, I don't drive a lot, I don't need to go outside every day anymore
