As a cynic, I read that like "Slate volunteers it's customers as test subjects for previously untried EV service at local Bodge&Gouge."

The "upgraded" range is only 230 miles. This might make a decent around town vehicle, but that range is pretty bad. The Lightning and Cybertruck get around 320 miles and even that is considered low for truck applications.

The American automotive consumer base is filled to the gills with multi-vehicle owners who are in denial about how much they really drive day-to-day. And obviously this is not going to compare with the Lightning on size, or the Cybertruck on price.

Besides the "DIY urban runabout" vibe they are pushing, I think another fantastic application of this could be rentals like at Home Depot or U-Haul... On-demand use for people who don't normally own trucks (or even vehicles), vastly reduced maintenance for the corporate owners, and an indestructible interior that makes the prison-cell-chic of the Mavericks look like a Bentley in comparison. Renter gets a credit for any juice not used, owner plugs it in and charges it overnight for the next business day. As Leno says... "clever."

Made a reservation months ago - but main concerns are:
1) Paid $24,670 for my 2022 Maverick Hybrid XLT...lots missing from the Slate.
2) Add speakers, use of Iphone, etc, CarPlay/Screen, etc to get to the functions of my XLT.
3) Heater on an all Electric EV is going to suck mileage from the battery range.
4) Self-maintenance might be an issue for some "people".
5) Jay's drive did not seem like a lot of power/acceleration.

I'm sure you will pay more than what you paid for the Maverick. Plus you will have no radio or paint. I see this as a limited use 3rd vehicle, not something you want to drive everyday. It will have some early curiosity appeal like the Cyber-joke, but I don't see it being a mainstream product.

I'll warn you up front that this is pretty much clickbait:
https://www.autoweek.com/news/a70258612/jay-leno-drives-slate-truck/

The relevant paragraph:
Leno’s verdict? We get a lot of information about the truck and the company, but Leno never comes out and delivers a judgement. Sometimes car and truck makers limit a review to just background information, with no “driving impressions,” even though Leno is clearly driving the truck throughout the video. He does say, in general, “It’s able to do what a lot of electric vehicles can do, just for half the price.”
At the link, there is a 35-minute video of Leno that I have no intention of watching.

It was a boring video.

An Jay, as much as I love him, is showing his age. He's starting to forget basic things, and asking the same questions multiple times.

I left depressed after watching and 100% sure Slate is click-bait in itself. A scam.

Not cheap. But cheaply made.

In a dumb part of the show, Jay said the woman was too busy to go along with Jay and the male company rep. on a test drive. No she wasn't Jay. The damn thing only has two seats.

Yugo 2.0.

Ford Maverick SLATE Truck Debut! Convertible From Pickup to SUV {filename}

Slate feels familiar.
I went to look at the Yugo at the Philly car show. By the time I visited, I think the salesman had heard enough and just kept his humor about it. He didn’t even offer to sell me one.
Being a cheap explorer, I also test drove a 1st year Hyundai Excel. Roomy, good paint… OK! Pulled onto Route 1 in PA and hit the flashers until I could pull into the next lot. When I hit the gas it just made a lot of noise but didn’t accelerate. Scared the crap out of me!
Yugo gave up, and Hyundai fought to improve.
