$100 steelies with OE sensors and Nokian Outpost nAT in a 255/65R17. Just got them setup over the weekend and will be testing in some snow this coming weekend. Stock height for now. So far no rubbing issues.

Similar to @compactdan got OEM steelies but put "regular" Michelin X-Ice SUV tires 225/65r17 with whatever sensors KalTire installs. Painted the silver wheels black and kept the OEM covers.

We got just a bit of snow - 16 inches - no big deal. The snow tires are ok - better than stock in the conditions.

Was glad to have the AWD in the hybrid pushing through end of driveways when needed in the last storm. If the front tires come off the ground as the snow compacts under the front axle the rear tires can still push me through. Saw a few folks in the ditches with 2 or 3 wheels on the ground and some in the air - no locking diff so I'd still be stuck. Gun it and hope for the ABS to help.

Well here's a good laugh for you. I bought Hankook Dynapro AT2 235/70R17 and had them mounted on steel Maverick rims. For summer months I am running 255/50R20 Summit Trail Climber SUV 2 on Mach-E wheels. Shortly after receiving the tires I discovered the size was 235/75R17 and I was unsure if they would fit. I found out in November when I test fit one and it did rub the front wheel well in turns. I'll use those Hankook on my 2003 Silverado instead.

Snowmageddon 2026 came and on day two, I gave the Maverick a try. I was surprised that the little truck got around fine though it does slip a little as compared to my F-350 on 37" AT tires.

I thought my first post should be something I actually know about. lol 20 years in tire wholesaling.

Lots of great winters out there, but if you want the absolute best, Nokian all the way. I've actually been to their test facility in Ivalo, Finland. They actually have 70% market share there. I've personally had like 5 sets on different vehicles over time.
Probably the best in business indeed. I had a pair of hakkapeliittas on my 17 Fiesta St they were by far the best snow tire I ever ran. Blizzak were a close second on my wife’s bmw 228i. Thanks for the info definitely a great tire.

I bought used steelies from a Bronco Sport for $300 and got a set of Vredstein Wintracs. Work great. Got a massive snow storm, state of emergency, ice was so bad my snowblower couldn’t clear driveway, etc. Truck drove through it all no problem. Actually it’s really boring, wish it could power slide a little better lol!

Huge fan of dedicated snow tires but got to say my wife’s Grand Cherokee with Michelin Cross Climate 2s does really well, too.
I loved my Vredstein Wintrac Pro. I ran them on my 2018 Audi S3. LOVED the tread pattern and its ability to dipperse water and ins any deep slush. They were quiet as well and still maintained a sporty feel where the S3 was able to handle ok’ish. Yeah I miss that car. Great choice in tire. If my memory serves me correct I believe Vredstein has made winter tires since the early 60’s so quite a pedigree.
Here’s my S3 sitting on 18” wintrac pro’s.

sorry lol I geek out over stuff like this hope I’m not oversharing. I run winter tires on every car 😅.

Before parking my Lobo for the winter installed 17" steel wheels with Continental Vikingcontact 8's.
The truck is ready to go should something happen to my 2013 Focus.
The Focus has General Arctic Altimax 12's on steel wheels.

No noise problem for me, but it's rare that the B&O system isn't getting a workout so I'd never know either way 😁
Geez, I want my B&O really quiet at volume 4 or less, so that I can hear what the tires are doing. With it cranked, you have to wait for the side-effects like sliding through a stopsign to notice the problems.

Just 235 Wildpeak AT Trails but damn are they pretty solid in the snow.

The territory HT were fun from the standpoint that the vehicle was always slipping and sliding.

The Wildpeak AT Trails have been bang on through this major snow storm.
They came stock on my tremor and I ran them the first season last year with 100% tread. I drive a lot 30k miles a year and they’re worn down at 40k I didn’t wanna run them again in the winter with little tread so opted for winter set thets dedicated. I’ll just replace the wild peaks this year with another set they’re great otherwise and yes they will get you by in the winter for sure. Decent 4 season tire m&s tire.

I had an old truck and lost the muffler. When I finally got around to fixing it I discovered I had bad wheel bearings. Couldn't hear them grind with the loud exhaust.

Here’s one entertaining tidbit they told me. The Hakkapeliitta name comes from a Finnish war cry that translated to “off with their heads” or “cut them down”

Haven’t had a chance to post much so finally getting around to sharing the winter setup I’ve been running since November.

Picked up a set of 17x7.5 RTX Ranch wheels on eBay for winter use. I liked that they looked somewhat ford OEM. And I wanted OEM center bore which had 63.4, didn’t wanna mess an around with hub rings ect. Wrapped them in Toyo Observe G3 Ice OEM sizing. Also the stock black ford center caps fit perfectly. Used ford open end lug nuts and installed some Amazon black lug nut covered to match it all up nicely.

Mini review on winter tires. Are they good for the money yes. I’d probably give them a 3.5 out of 5 stars but being I’ve had much better winter tires these are just ok. Positives are good traction out of the hole and decent braking and they’re actually pretty quiet for a snow tire. The negatives are they’re ultra mushy so at higher highway speed and winds you’re going to feel it. I don’t care for the turn in with the sipes are good in a straight line but when you turn there’s a feeling of unsettledness. Will they break loose, no…but it’s just that like I said I’ve had better winter tires like blizzaks and good years and many more to list, these don’t feel as confident. But in the end they’re great for what they are and you can stud them if you need to.

anyways what’s everyone else running for their winter setup? And how do you like the tires you’re running?
