I'm new to this site, and not finding the right spots to send a message.
I would like recommendations for hard tonneau covers either tri fold or retractable.

Sandi,
I refrain from offering recommendations, they tend to be like elbows.
You have to determine what's right for you to that end, I've added some questions that you need to ask yourself.

This Thread is a good place for you to start looking.
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/100-bed-tonneau-cover-aftermarket-options-compilation-list-📃.68424/

Things you'll need to determine are

1. Your budget $-$$$$
2. Security Determines a hard or soft tonneau cover.
3. Appearance, Flush mounted or One that sits on top of the bed rails. They come in both rolling or folding.
4. How often do you require the full use of your bed (cab to tailgate) above the rails?
5. Retractable. On a 4.5 bed. You lose some bed space with this one.
Snow and ice will be a factor. Removal can require two people they tend to be very heavy plus drain tubes.
6. A tonneau cover with 3 Folds may block your rear window when fully raised VS a cover that folds twice.
7. How important is easy removal?
If you have a two-fold and want to use the area towards the cab, above the bed rails. You'll have to remove the cover. In that case ease of removal would be important.

You thought this was going to be easy 🤣

Good luck

I agree with all of this...but from personal experience I also want to add how often do you need to open the cover. For me I do it pretty often and having a hard folding cover was a pain in the ass to be honest, moving to a retractable makes it 10x easier. But yes it does take up bed space, cost more, and harder to remove if you need the whole bed so it really depends on your use case.

I started with a soft roll-up, but it was a little annoying watching it move around at speed.
Just installed a hard rolling cover, BAK X4S, from Realtruck.
Looks better, sits flush with the top of the bed rails, is easy to open and close, and secure when closed.
Good luck with your choice. Lots to consider.

Use the search function. Very helpful. I have a hard tri-fold cover. Cost pretty penny but wouldn't be without it. The security peace-of-mind it provides is worth the expense.

I have the "OEM" hard rolling one.

It's great except it really doesn't like the cold. Feels like it is going to break when opening it and you have to slam it so hard you'd swear it will break closing it. Irony: I bought the truck as a winter vehicle and the tonneau seems to be a summer version. lol

Not that I'm willing to try on a $1200 part but I bet I could break into it without even hurting my bad back. It offers the illusion of security though so hopefully no one tries.

Thanks! So much to consider. There is a company called Most Plus with good prices, and can even get through Walmart, but never heard of it. It didn't say free shipping like Rough Country. I am so overwhelmed with this. This noise issue, learning to back and park a truck, even a small one is a major challenge, but I'm determined. I just don't know how to post a new thread. I still have to respond to someone else's. You see why I am tech challenged with my new truck.

I bought the OEM hard trifold. Living in N.E. I was concerned the soft cover would be an issue with the snow. The number of times I’ll likely need to raise all 3 sections is limited so blocking the view those few times by wasn’t an issue for me. So far, 7 months, and no issues. Bed stays dry and clean.

I purchased and installed the Retrax XR Pro retractable cover - installation took me about an hour without assistance - it’s been almost a year and it still performs well. Expensive compared to most but the quality is good and it’s lockable and my bed is dry I just mounted BillieBars and a Yakima Load Warrior Basket above it it does what I expected

I have had the Rough Country trifold hard cover for a few months and am very pleased with it. I chose that one for price and because I can fold all sections up when needed. Also, a buddy has one and liked it so it was a safe bet for me.

I've looked at all 3 types and decided the hard rollup the best. It doesn't take up bed space and opens fully, secures items, looks great and watertight. I hot the Truxedo Sentry hard roll up tonneau cover. Very happy with it.
