Not sure making the Maverick a longer wheelbase crossover makes sense. If it's cheaper than the Escape then that's more expensive for less space. If it's in the 28k-32k+ range then the Edge is even more superfluous in it's already narrow niche between the Escape and Explorer.

Although if you want to make a mini truck/subcompact crossover thing basically reinvent the Suzuki Sidekick and slap a Bronco badge/styling on it.

I think it's likely they'll add a longer bed and drop the crew cab for an inexpensive work pickup. I don't think they'll make anything similar to the transit, since that's already the standard work van for most commercial uses. And like the Mav Hybrid, the e-transit is already sold out for the '22 model year.

I wonder if his comments really hint at the Maverick and Bronco Sport being in the same "family" as far as price point and the demographic targeted. I don't see any reason to do something like a Maverick SUV because the Bronco Sport is their entry-level SUV. He may also being including the Maverick in with the Bronco "lifestyle" that those vehicles target in their marketing.
Why not turn into BMW, who makes a sedan, then a coupe, then another sedan out of the coupe?

Where is the next Ecosport anyway? Is Ford just giving up on the subcompact CUV market?

At this point, how bout they get up to date on current orders and builds THEN they can worry about new vehicles.

Signed,

The guy who complains about people complaining about waiting for the truck they ordered way too early before production began.
I suspect the supply shortage made a normal wait for car producers -extraordinary waits. You can't even buy a used car, never mind a NEW one. It's a weird world right now. Hope you get yours soon.. I'm still waiting too.

Apparently it was such a terrible vehicle they did it a favor by killing it off.

Well yeah, the current one was crap. It was designed for 3rd world countries, then Ford attempted to modify it TWICE to bring it up to 1st world standards. They failed. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a market for that size of vehicle. The Nissan Kicks does well, the Chevy Trailblazer does well, even the Chevy Trax. People are desperate for the CUV body style, and will overpay for what are really just subcompact hatchbacks.

I think the maverick is just the beginning. I believe Ford will bring out at least 2 more trucks loosely based on Mavericks success-

1. 2 seater sized like the ecosport.

2. A unibody placed between ranger and f150. The “explorer” of trucks. F100 would be a fantastic name plate

Sure they'll likely add different trims of the Maverick pickup in future model years, but I think what original quote means is that Ford will have:

Mustang: Traditional, Mach E, etc.

Bronco: Regular, Sport, etc.

Maverick: Small Pickup, maybe a van to replace the transit, maybe an overgrown hatchback to replace the focus, etc.

A unibody based on the Explorer is a no brainer. I don't think "F100" would have any sway with the suburban dads that would buy that type of truck. Maybe steal the Timberline name from the new off road trims? I don't even think a midsize unibody truck would steal many sales from the Ranger. Look at the Bronco Sport/Escape. The Bronco Sport is almost all extra sales in 2021.

Just build , ship them, and then proceed to STFU about future plans.

As cool as it is to imagine different Mav flavors, this is why I'm glad I got in early. All this bloat will affect the pricing which of course is the goal. To make it exclusive with alot of features and set prices accordingly.

Will be interesting to see the route they go with it. Like Toyota did with Scion for entry level cars. As long as they don't lose the original purpose like Scion did, I think that they will be ok.
There's a big difference between the Scion and also Saturn, game plan vs. what I think they are planning here. Scion & Saturn opened all brand new exclusive dealerships and tried to pretend they were a different "company" from parents Toyota & GM. IMO, they don't want to create a niche brand separate from Ford but use the "family" thing while offering different versions under the banner of Maverick like how Mach E is under Mustang and Bronco Sport under Bronco.
