Why doesn't Ford offer a rear heated back glass on the Maverick? It would be nice to have to defrost the rear window and melt snow and ice. During a cold day with passengers in the back seat they steam up the rear window.

I am pretty sure my 2023 lariat has rear defog - AWD Lariat - am I wrong or is it optional?

Same reason they do not offer self-dimming rear view mirror, built-in garage door or security gate remote buttons...etc.

You certainly can add one.

I have owned a lot of pickup trucks over the years including Nissan, Ford Sport trac, Rangers, Ford F-150s, my current Maverick along two F-350's, the past couple of years. Absolutely None of them have had a rear window defroster/defogger.
I've never even seen a pickup truck that had a rear window deicer.
Does anyone have a picture of one they owned, not just one off the internet?
I have never really had a problem with ice or snow on the rear windows of my trucks, more of a fogging problem as the interior heats up and the snow melts off of boots etc.
I hope this helps.

Take Care and 🎄Happy Holidays🎄

When you drive a truck you learn to use your side mirrors. The inside rearview is nice, but I rarely use it to see behind the truck. I've driven large trucks and am used to the side mirrors. The Maverick is sort of a transitional vehicle - somewhere between a truck and a car.

Some Maverick owners go crazy because there is no factory cover in the drivers side rear fender behind the wheel and they worry that dirt and mess will ruin their tail lights. Larger pickups do not have covers like that and the wiring on both sides (the horror) is subject to tons of things kicked up into the fenders. Always has been. For a truck, this area being open is standard operating practise.

Again, it is a transitional vehicle. It was built to keep costs down. The rear glass defroster probably was considered but all Mavs have side mirrors.

I use the rear window when I drive to see what's behind me. My side mirrors show me what's in the lanes beside me and not what's in the lane behind me.

Maybe it's something to do with some Mavs having a window that opens in the rear.

You’re pretty sure, but don’t know! It’s YOUR truck dude,
yeah I don’t have the dash layout memorized. But, the button i am thinking about is actually the side windows heater; but up until just now I thought it was the rear defog; the more u know

It's a truck! Show me a factory defroster on a half ton from the big 3 manufacturer? I personally don't see a need for it. Like was already posted about using the mirrors, similar to when the back camera is covered with snow or ice.

I think most who wonder why no rear defroster it is possibly their first truck. Then again enough people wanting one, I'm sure Ford and other manufacturers will offer it, if they can make a few extra bucks. It depends on the demand.

And my side mirrors DO have a defrost button. Learnt that from the paper manual.

Ah, you must have that dual zone feature, I don’t, in my lowly EcoBoost. 😉
I think for your my24 xlt trim level the heated exterior mirrors was part of the optional luxury package in both EcoBoost/Hybrid versions of the truck

Money. If it costs $4 per truck that's a quarter million dollars in no time.
