Ford Maverick Ford Maverick is MotorTrend 2026 Truck of the Year! 🏆 001-2026fordmavericklariat

The Ford Maverick Is the 2026 MotorTrend Truck of the Year

America’s favorite compact pickup gets smarter, tougher, and even more fun, earning our highest honor at long last.

Best of the Year

Back in 2022, when Ford introduced the Maverick, it was an open question whether Americans would accept a truly compact, crossover-based pickup truck. All those sales later, the answer is, “Yes, they will, if truck experts design it and build it.” Now the Maverick lineup has been further refined, improved, and broadened to become even more appealing to even more people. And that’s why MotorTrend is seizing this opportunity to name Ford Maverick our 2026 Truck of the Year.

🤔 Ford's return on ad dollars🫰

*I'm not saying that it's a bad truck or it doesn't deserve the award.
Reality is.
Ford spends billions of dollars in advertising.
Advertising dollars, is what keeps magazines like Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Hot Rod..etc. afloat.
Who was Maverick's competition with a hybrid?

I had a feeling the Maverick would win. A couple of days ago, I read the article regarding the contenders and the Maverick was toward the top of this list. So, I figured, it'll probably win. I mean, what's not to like? It's still somewhat affordable (not as much as it used to be) fuel efficient, well-equipped and not overly sized like most pickups nowadays. It's all the pickup that most people are ever gonna need. I still prefer the pre-facelifted look but it's growing on me. It does look especially nice on the Lobo and Lariat trims.

Predecessors like the Ford Courier were not like sized. The Maverick is much larger than those. It is much more comfortable, powerful and safer, however. The second generation Ranger Supercab is very close in size, just slightly narrower. I have owned both.

Sounds like even they are getting tired of unnecessarily large pickup trucks.
Nawwww,
Ford paid them more than anybody else did.
Kidding !:’P

But think about it. The Maverick stands alone in the mini pickup category.
No competition except bloated mid size trucks with old tech engines and behind the curve mpg’s.
And don’t mention that abortion of a so called SUV with a bed called the Santa Cruz. It don’t count it’s a P.O.S.

“Both the XLT Hybrid AWD and Lobo models managed their cargos easily, though when accelerating under load, the hybrid’s engine revs to redline and loudly hangs there until you’ve hit your target speed.”

They should have left this statement out of the article. Not very flattering.

I will say that being able to sit on the tailgate is a huge plus. Last time I went camping with scouts I even pointed that out when I was parked next to an F-150 and a Ram 1500. Sure, they could pull the 9,000 pound scout trailer. I could grab everything in my bed without climbing.

I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't like their Maverick, and I get questions about mine all the time, especially at dirt bike races where people are impressed by the 28-30MPG(Ecoboost) I get hauling my bike around. It's a good truck as long as it fits your use cases.

I wonder if it will still be Truck of the Year when it hits its first major redesign and grows up to be the size of a current Ranger?
