I wanted to know if it is possible to add the equipment to my Maverick to upgrade the truck from the 2K tow package it came with up to the 4K package?

Would be extremely expensive to duplicate the Ford 4K package.

most anything is possible if you have enough money to throw at it. Assuming your truck already has AWD, imo you'd probably have a better outcome by trading for one factory equipped with the 4k towing than trying to add it. Changing gear ratio's and adding all the other different components would be real pricey. If your truck is not already AWD, whew, forget about it, it would be a no brainer to just go trade.

That would be cost prohibiting. I understand that the transmission , rear axle and other things are different. I most like will never use mine but for ( I believe) $700.00 that was a no brainer option for me, without talking about resale value

You could add trailer brakes with 7-pin harness and an additional transmission cooler and be nearly there for not a lot of money.

That was what I was wanting to know it won't be the same, but I had heard that I could add the what you are talking about. Has anybody added the transmission cooler here?

The higher capacity radiator, cooling fan and transmission cooler shouldn't be too hard to add. An after market brake controller with the 7 pin connector is fairly easy. I think the only other difference is the gearing which would be quite spendy. The cooling upgrade and brake controller should get you close to 4k though, but since you would be towing over the capacity set by the manufacturer you would void your warranty and have a very big liability issue if you are in a wreck.

Good point to be sure. I have a mid course in mind. I would like to add the cooler and connectors and leave it at that and still only tow 2000 lbs, but my feeling that would be better for the truck the cooler for example while still staying within the weight the truck is rated for. Does that make since?

I think the gearing is the biggest thing. Without that the engine is going to have to work that much harder to move the extra weight down the road. You could probably get away with upgrading the cooling components beyond what the factory 4K tow package offers (if you can find parts to do it) but even then I would keep a close eye on engine and trans temp. Ford does account for a small "margin of error" so to speak. They rate the truck at 2K but you can get away with a little more (~500Lbs) with no ill-effects. I've towed numerous times right at or just above the 2K limit and noticed no real differences in engine or trans temp with my SG3. All of that said I would highly recommend a trailer brake controller. Even at 2K braking performance is already noticeably affected.

EDIT:
There are a few options on the market now for wireless trailer brake controllers that you can control with a smartphone. If you don't like the idea of cutting into your truck's wiring to add a regular controller these are a good option. Very pricey though. (there's always a trade-off)

No, many the lobo and tremor models can not tow over 2000lbs and the approach angle on the tremor will not accept it. My guess it has a lot to do with gearing or the RDU.

Like was posted it is probably cheaper to trade it in on one with 4k tow package. Also this will comply with the manufacturer's warranty.

If you will not towing more than 2000lbs I don't see why you would want to risk voiding manufacturers warranty and powertrain warranty? The truck from the manufacturer states it can tow up to 2000lbs. If that's all you will tow, just enjoy the truck you have.

I can't disagree with anything said. Getting a different truck is not an option. I was looking to add transmission cooling to help my truck out.

I'd get an OBD-II reader with transmission temperature PID capability and then see what your trans temps are actually at. AKA, gather some data before throwing parts at a car that might not even need it.

For example, my Nissan Frontier is rated to tow 6.1K. Towing 4K is perfectly fine until I encounter hill climbs. The trans temp will shoot up from 180F to 240F+ if I just keep my foot in the carpet. Instead, I'll dip behind a semi and scoot on up at like 35mph with the trans temp holding steady at 210F or so, and then it'll drop back to 190F once the terrain levels out.

To help your truck out is following manufacturers scheduled maintenance and following manufacturers guidelines.
