Windshield on my 2024 Mav cracked for no reason.

Hi Maverick owners,

I discovered this today and was unable to find any kind of rock chip etc.. I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has has seen this. Just seems weird to not have a chip and the shape of the crack is crazy too. The model is an XLT Lariat. The crack goes )from right to left) about 3" below the black area behind the rearview mirror, across the black area then straight up to the top edge of the windshield. I'm curious to see if this is happening from the body flexing?

Yes, there are some online threads of people discovering spontaneous cracks in their windshield. Presumably due to stress points created by improper mounting at the factory. No, Ford has not claimed any responsibility.
I had to replace my windshield when I had 945 miles on the truck.
I cannot say for sure if it was hit by a rock or started on its own. I can tell you that these windshields are thin and brittle and crack very easily.

Be sure to insist on Ford branded Sound Screen acoustic glass. Do not let Safelight install anything else or you will be giving up the sound deadening benefits that you paid for when you bought a Lariat.

Do not let that company anywhere near installing a windshield. Take it to your dealership's collision center and have them order the genuine Ford SoundScreen windshield. If yours has the Lux package you also need to make sure you get the specific model number of windshield with the heated wiper park.

Mine had done almost the exact Crack. But there was a chip. It was at the top edge, I mean at exactly the edge in the black. Didn't see the Crack until it grew down and across into the clear glass . It was a tiny stone chip that started it all......

since you have the lariat, when you contact your insurance company insist on them replacing it with the oem acoustic SoundScreen windshield as equipped from the factory. If you don't they will likely replace it with the cheapest Chinese windshield they can source. they can verify that based on the vin #.

I had to replace my windshield on my 25 Lariat after a crack spread too far to ignore. I think started from a rock hit although I did not see a bruise, but certainly heard the hit. The crack started
later in the day when it got really hot. I had that once before with my 98 F150. On a really hot day with the truck facing a light coloured wall it just cracked, no bruising or other damage. It is a bit late in the season for heat cracking, at least here in Canada. Not sure if heat could have had an effect for this crack or not. I've only been in Texas once and that was in July, it certainly got hot then.

This was eaxctly my thought. it looks like an edge strike. Glass is prone propagating long cracks from minor strikes at the very edge of the glass.

Check your warranty paperwork - this is called out IIRC.
Or maybe it was alignment.
Or both!

Stress crack most likely. My OG Tesla Model 3 had them on the glass roof, which was replaced under warranty. Hopefully this is isolated and Ford owns up.
