From what I’ve seen the resale value of the lightening is terrible. Depreciation is way way too high.
Same with most EVs.

People don't want to buy 10yr old 100k EVs fearing battery condition, unlike regular cars at that age. PLUS regular cars that old are way cheaper.

I think I'm sold on the small truck design. I plan on driving my '22 hybrid maverick until it dies and hopefully there are other competitors by the time that happens. If I crashed today then yes, I would re-buy the hybrid maverick again

That makes it an EXCELLENT value as a 2-3 year old used vehicle. The 1st owner took the hit. Besides, I usually keep vehicles a long time. Depreciation doesn't matter nearly as much then.

People don't buy 10 year old high mileage EVs because other than the Nissan leaf and Tesla's, there aren't many out there. But if I was to purchase an old EV, I'd do my homework. I'd also pay to have the battery condition checked. At our dealership, our diagnostic scanner can measure the overall condition. So we can see the degradation. We can monitor cell voltage down to the individual cells. And many batteries can be purchased in modules. So you don't have to buy the entire battery. You can purchase the bad one and the one that may be marginal. I don't own an EV. But I'm not afraid of them either.

Not afraid of EV’s, I just could not live with their current limitations without a back up gas or hybrid vehicle. This alone makes them NOT a good economical choice.

Until the range and charging options fit my needs they are all just fancy golf carts.

I have a small Ryobi 1800 watt run gas generator I could carry in an EV pick up truck. It runs seven hours on a gallon at 1100 watt output.

How much charge/range would that get me after an hour on the gas generator ?

I honestly think that I could live with an extended range lightning or Extended range Mach e as my only vehicle given my habits and places I travel. The vast majority of my travels are within the range of the range plus one stop. And are along routes that are well stocked with fast chargers . If I took long trips often, I'd probably only get one as a second vehicle. Im planning on either repairing an old 1993 Pontiac in my yard or purchasing a second vehicle. But it won't be an EV simply for the fact that other than the Leaf, they aren't old enough to have become cheap yet. And they short range and fragile batteries.

I got a neighbor, driving habits like you describe. He bought an EV. He rented a gas car on a trip he took last year. It was not expensive at all.

BUT ! We had a nasty cold spell last winter.
His EV, a Chevy would not run period.

As soon as it warmed up he traded for an Ecoboost Maverick, got a really nice Lariat AWD.
Just sayin.

Yes. Actually I sold my 2023 for a profit with 28k miles on it. Then bought a 25 AWD Hybrid at a great discount. The best part was the Eruption Green I wanted since the Maverick was introduced in 2021. Very happy with it, and no issues.

That's a Chevy problem, not an EV problem... 😉

Any vehicle, with proper maintenance, can last hundreds of thousands of miles.
Indeed. My family has maintained my great-grandfather's axe so well that I'm using it today, five blade and six handles later!

If it wouldn't run, something was wrong with it other than it being an EV. Range may be shortened significantly. But they always run. Several people left them outside overnight in single digit temperatures to see what they'd do. Some had to warm the battery before they had full performance. But they ran. EVs are very common in Norway where it gets really cold. If a person had home charging, the battery could be pre warmed while still plugged in much in the same way people use block heaters. I know the Fords allow the owner to schedule all that stuff. EVs have definite shortcomings , and they're not ready for everyone. But they have definite advantages too. Like anything else , a person should weigh them out to see what suits him best. By the way,I live in North Florida. We stayed home when we got our once in 20 year snow. The last time it got into the single digits was in 1983 I believe. We may or may not have a hard freeze in winter

The Chevy left him stranded when he needed it. He was done with it.

Understandable. But it would have been interesting to see if it was simply a problem with HIS vehicle in particular rather than an EV problem.
