Never heard of Hokas.
I had to look them up.
Being a old man, I wear "NB" New Balance from Big 5 Sporting Goods.
Also being old, I don't run anymore. I shuffle briskly. I'm afraid of tripping over my big ass fee👣t.
God I hate it when people call my New Balance "old man shoes". Just because I have 5 or 6 pairs and they fit my 70+ year old feet soooo nice does not make them old man shoes.

If I ever ditch the laces for velcro that will be a different story

I have been a Converse guy practically since birth and have over 100 pairs now. Maybe since people of all ages wear them, they have never been called old man shoes. I also am 70+. Since you are all about New Balance, I want to share a pic of my one pair of NB:

Thank you for posting this. I agree coming to the website is like an escape from the reality that we all tend to want to get away from occasionally

Let’s be nice let’s face it. We all have to taste. We purchased a Maverick.

Are these the one that people confuse for White Cross shoes?

I've never seen those - dd a search and they are from 1987? Pretty cool but I like a little more foot padding as a heavy stepper.
I've worn NB's since I tried the first pair 30 or so years ago. They fit my feet without having to buy wide sizes. I had never heard them called old man shoes till my son said it to me.

New Balance seems to be in the same situation as Maverick.
Designed and intended for a younger crowd, but in reality, old sensible folks, ended up being the buyers of both. 😆

You have to become older to not be so swayed by current fashions, that you are willing to let your feet suffer just to wear certain shoes.

If other shoe brands had as many wide versions as many people actually need - maybe it wouldn't be NB mainly grabbed by wiser older ones.

I know it was funny showing up to infrequent group bike rides, and hear people with very expensive new shoes talking about how tight they were.
No duh. During that time only seemed like 1 brand had wider shoes then the popular narrow European feet could wear. And wasn't a fancy brand.

I think NB only made those high top Converse clones for one year as you said, 1987. I wear Converse every day with a Dr. Scholls pad in them. I find them very comfortable but others do not. Many of my pairs were made in the 1960s and 1970s. They made them better back then. Some say they made better cars back then too. I used to drive a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T but today I love my Maverick.

I tried to buy NB's the other week, my daughter wouldn't let me. Got slip on Sketchers instead.

Converse All Stars became hugely poplar again in the mid 1980's and there were endless clones. It's hard to explain how popular they were for about 2 years, and just about every store had a knock off. Even K-Mart had their knock off version, I would know because that's all my parents would get for me. Of course everyone in school knew had the cheap knock offs and made fun of me so I stopped wearing them.
Having said all of that, I'm still surprised to see that even NB had their own version. I learned something new today almost 40 years later.

Canvas sneakers were the coolest shoes in the world when I was a kid! Ray Bradbury talks about being young and getting a new pair of sneakers for the summer. Reading it really brought back memories!

Enough with the niceness, already!!! I really do not give a darn about footwear, unless it relates to tires on a Maverick. Put your sneakers where the sun does not shine and where they belong: in the closet!! Hey, ain't I mean??????????:teehee:

I was saddened on yesterday when I saw an otherwise interesting thread devolve into name calling and profanity laced insults. It seems as if it got so bad that it was closed to further comments. Most of us are older people . We can do better. We're talking about a TRUCK. It's not that serious. 😅. I enjoy this forum because we're civil even in our disagreements. When I want to watch a nasty back and forth, mingo to twitter, Facebook, and Threads😅. Anyway, let's do better God bless.
You're ugly, and your mother dresses you funny!
