I’ve a 23(25k miles)and 24 (17Kmiles)Ford Maverick Lariat hybrid Don’t trust the reverse sensing system to warm you automobiles behind you. Both of my Maverick sometimes doesn’t sense cars passing or parked behind you and sometimes they are too sensitive. At first they worked great but both suddenly became erratic after having the 23 software packages updated. I found out the hard way that the 23 maverick reverse system was messed up when I trusted the system to warn me when I got close to a car parked in tight angled parking space behind me. I heard a thump, I’d backed into the rear bumper of a new $90K Lexus. Cost my insurance $2200 and I’m sure higher insurance rates for me(even though the damage was a 2-3 inch scuff on rear bumper cover of Lexus no damage to my Mav.
One big reason for buying Lariats was the supposed safer reverse sensing system. I took the 23 to my Ford dealer and they checked it and yes the sensors are bad, none available in the whole US. Now the 24 doing same thing. Sensors or system software?

Good grief. We've gotten to rely on those sensors so much that we forget to thoroughly check our surroundings. Sorry to hear about this.
I was involved in a very minor accident while maneuvering my RV inside an auto repair lot and just skipped reporting it to insurance. I contacted the owner of the car whose mirror I separated from the body and I paid him directly. Fortunately, he was a stand up guy and very understanding. Insurance didn't need to know ... no one was hurt and it was on a private lot.

Sorry to hear of your issues, never had any sensor or any other issues with my MY23. Hope you can get it resolved

I was parked between two super duties that had parked a little close to the Mav, so I was watching that I didn’t get into their bumper and had been keeping an eye on the side mirror. But I’d never paid any attention that you can’t see the last foot or so of the Mav in the side mirror. Reverse sensing wasn’t making a sound so I thought I had another 3-4 feet I gave it just a little more gas and thump. I pulled forward and got out and looked just a little scuff on the rear bumper,I figured it would buff out. His wife wanted it looked at new Lexus had made 1 payment. so I figured he’d call me and tell me a couple hundred bucks. That’s when he told me it was almost $2200, so I let the insurance sort it out.

I've noticed same on my 2022 EB Lariat. Especially with people not sensing but I just figured just another digital quirk...So is there supposed to be a fix?

I haven’t heard of a fox and my guy at Ford dealer hadn’t heard anything. I think it might be a software thing. My 23 didn’t do it until I had a bunch of updates done. Not sure on my 24 as I’ve not had updates done but it maybe set to automatic update and it gets parked in my garage so it gets WiFi connection.

For pre-25MY the updates are only to the infotainment system.
Since even the software to improve the rearview video display couldn't be done via that update method, this is even more involved.

The dealer sent a tech to my house and he spent 2 hours doing updates. He said he did 17 updates. One was the rear camera recall. I don’t know if any were for the reverse sensing. All I know is that the reverse sensor didn’t work properly about a week after the updates were done.

😳 17 updates even after you had already done updates previously? I can only assume all you had done before must have failed and screwed everything up

I have a '23 XLT with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and I have noticed the same. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The same thing happens on my Toyota C-HR which has the same feature. I'm not sure what the problem is but you just have to be more vigilant when backing up. I pretend I'm in a vehicle that doesn't have that feature. The back-up camera helps a little.

Clearly, the sensors failed you. Unfortunately, I think the $2200 was probably an accurate amount.

My initial thought as well. They are a nice supplement but shouldn't be relied upon.

The one time I do depend on the backup camera is when I reverse out of a tandem garage. I inch backward because I am completely blind on the peripherals other than what is shown in the camera feed.

I got my drivers license in 1975. Learned to drive with my head on a swivel. Sure, I used my rear view mirrors as support but always depended on my forward vison to see what was behind, or next to me. I don't like rear sensors or cross traffic alerts and find them annoying most of the time. You can hear me saying "Yeah, yeah, I know there is something back there. I can see it." I never backed into anything, nor did anyone hit me. Because before I get in a vehicle I always check if a bike, or possibly a kid might be behind me. Then reverse slowly. We have become so lazy and dependent on technology to do even the simplest of things. Turn your head and use your gift of eyesight.

Yet somehow we did backups on a daily basis before the camera tech. :giggle:

I’m so glad I know how to drive in reverse.
