I sold a 2018 Ford Fusion Titanium and bought a 2025 Maverick Lobo.
Both vehicles have a 2.0 ecoboost engine.
The Lobo engine sounds and feels different to the Fusion's.
As it turns out the 2.0 Ecoboost is a completely engine new for 2025.
Everything is new. The engine block, cylinder head, turbo etc.
Even the bore and stroke has changed.
The new engine is made in Dearborn, whereas the previous one was made in Cleveland.
I questioned the salesman at the dealership and he had no knowledge of the change.
I wonder why Ford didn't rename the new engine?

There have been numerous variations of the 2.0 ecoboost but yes there was a substantial change for 2025.
Were they not upgrades to the to the existing platform?
The 2025 engine is completely new.

yes they have made significant changes in the past.

Small world, I got a 2019 Ford Fusion Titanium and a 2025 Maverick Tremor. I was shocked at how much faster and how much more aggressive the 2.0L EcoBoost sounds in the Maverick.

You might be hearing that sweet V8….the artificial “sound enhancement” in certain Tremor & Lobo drive modes?
Its quite convincing, I can also hear the Turbocharger whoosh and whistle, I wonder if that's a sound enhancement too as I never hear that in my Fusion.

I wonder why Ford didn't rename the new engine?
Familiar branding sells, and most consumers aren't nerdy enough to care about the technical difference. Just like how your Fusion had different EcoBoost architectures preceding it and obviously not at all similar to the V6 Cyclone EcoBoosts. Same reason Dodge calls their engines a Hemi even though it long since hasn't used true hemispherical heads.

Aside from the short video on youtube, I would love to see a detailed engineering write-up about all the differences including the dual injection design, gear driven oil pump, revised cylinder and head design.

The turbo’s whistle is at too high a frequency for my old ears to hear. Reminds me of a story about a tree in a forest..

You can hear the turbo fairly loud its not the piped in sound. I'm assume with a panel filter or new airbox you would hear it spool it quite nicely.
