I don't spend a huge amount of time reading thru all this, but I did notice some comments about the number of recalls.

It seems to me a lot of the recalls were related to the hybrid version of the Mav. I have a 23, and I think there was only 1 recall (and I don't even remember what it was for). I've had Zero issues since I got it.

Is this an entry level vehicle? I think the biggest definition is price. Today, that is the Mav. I've driven my Mav on 2, 3,000 mile trips. Is it the most comfortable vehicle I've ever had? No, but again, PRICE. I had a Silverado for a number of years. Obviously, way more expensive, both to buy and to drive. Now that I'm retired, my priorities changed.

“I've been in civics, in Kia Rios, Toyota tercels, cruzes, fiestas. There's always this underlying message of "We don't really care about you" that you get from something like a Corolla or a civic. It's a "They'll take whatever we give them" mentality. The maverick is the first entry level vehicle I've ever experienced that doesn't feel or act like an entry level vehicle,”

Funny, I feel exactly the opposite coming from Hondas and Toyotas primarily. As an example, our base model Toyota from 2018 came standard with all kinds of feature the Maverick lacks. Adaptive cruise, self parallel parking, all windows one touch up and down, pushbutton start, etc.

The form factor of the Maverick is pure genius, but every time I drive mine it feels quite cheap and as if every single penny that could be trimmed by the bean counters was trimmed. Don’t even get me started on rattles.
all true, but as a lifetime cheapskate and with much vehicle browsing, I ended up with a Mav. There's a LOT to criticize, but in the end it's still the best thing currently available for the money.

If I were in charge of the design department, I would have made sure the tactile things like interior surfaces and seating had more money spent on them to be higher perceived quality, and made cuts in less visible ways. The production cost to make a quality, durable interior would likely only be $200 more than than the current cheapo materials used in the XL through Lariat and beyond. That would add less than $500 to the purchase price, if not offset by cuts to production costs elsewhere.

How about the Rabbit Pick-up?
Have owned two of them, an 81 diesel and 83 gas. Always wanted an early 80s Dodge Rampage, but could never find a decent one.

I‘d add on “currently available for the money IF having a small pickup bed is a necessity.” Sounds like I’m like you. I ended up with a Maverick despite it being significantly flawed due to lack of other options in the segment. If you want a small 40 mpg pickup, you’re buying a Maverick.

i will admit, though, that I’m on the fence at this point whether I get enough utility from the form factor occasionally to live with the warts the other 85% of the time. I love the concept of the Maverick more than the implementation of the concept, I’m finding. When I was younger, I had more patience with build quality issues than I do now. These days, I just want stuff to work properly the first time with no BS.

I bought a Maverick because it was the best value for carrying my Catrike (& Bacchetta). Have yet to transport either because my house backs up against “The Loop” in Tucson:)

How do you secure your trike in the bed if I may ask?

Yea . I enjoy the performance and utility of my Mav especially at the price I paid . yes it has minor issues ( recalls) but no rattles or major issues yet . I have bought numerous new cars that had problems that were pia from day one of ownership (F150 rear end + , Chevy nova -trans + , VW rabbit p-up diesel - poor paint/ thin metal & crappy performance . New cars purchased no real issues ( Chevy Monte Carlo , two Toyota Corollas , and Toyota Camry ) .

How about the Rabbit Pick-up?
My girlfriend in college's father had a diesel rabbit pickup as his farm truck. He even found the speeds for clutchless shifting when he broke his leg.

When he went to trade it in, they looked up $1,450. -$500 for over 100k). -$1,000 for diesel. "You owe us $50".

"I think I can do better selling it myself."
