2025 Hybrid. How do you decide when to change the oil?

The on board oil life monitor is very good.

It's the #1 most accurate way to do oil changes.

Proven over time and by thousands (millions?) of owners.

If you drive fast, hard, or tow, it reminds you sooner.

If you drive very gently, it will remind you farther down the road.

14,000 very gentle miles = 10,000 average miles = 6,000 harsh miles.

Don't know if you are driving harshly or gently? The computer does.

Very gentle miles are harder on your oil than average miles. Hopefully the algorithm is programmed that way.

Define harder?

Because several Blackstone oil reports by self proclaimed gentle drivers (low annual mileage & not just 1 long trip) is available on this site, and if harder has anything to do with moisture or fuel content & weight or additives - little to no problems on their reports.

Use a search engine to understand how very gentle driving is harder on oil than normal driving.

Also, folks who send their oil off to be analyzed are not normal ie typical drivers.

My used 15,000+ mile oil just went off to Blackstone.
I get 48 to 50 MPG whole tank averages.
I hyper-mile, that is, use EV to the Max and have the gas engine on the least.

I'm going to post the detailed report when it comes back. Good or bad for all to see. I'm betting on good.

This is my typical trip.

"Driven gently" this truck is an EV with range extender in training.

Yes, a turbo boosted Maverick would require more frequent oil changes. The recommend interval of 5000 miles was based on frenchy’s hybrid.

If frenchy had a turbo EB, I would have recommended 3000 miles. Car Care Nut & The Oil Geek told me so - I trust those guys

So if his oil analysis comes back that he has already damaged his engine what then? An oil analysis every 2 months to see if you should change your oil cost more than changing the oil. These backyard engineers think they know more than the real ones. I worked with a guy who never changed his oil. Of course he had major repair bills but his argument was it would break no matter what he did. I really don't understand the need of people to argue that I MUST follow their oil change schedule. Never had a engine fail in 50 years of driving, never had an oil analysis done. But then again I trust the experts who came up with the schedule.

Hear Hear. Also, an oil analysis will not uncover the carbon buildup & sludge in a very gently driven stop & go Atkinson Cycle engine. Yuck.

Just caught the last comment.

Are you saying 87 octane is lower quality, say compared to 91 octane?

Or did Frenchy comment in a later post about finding the cheapest fuel possible at a non-brand name place?

If the advice to use Top Tier fuel is followed - I think you'd be hard pressed to find any fuel like 30 years ago where the higher octane actually had better detergent packages in it.
87 isn't lower quality anymore, for a long time. Just has less octane. Which has nothing to do with quality.

I use Chevron 91 Premium. It has a larger quantity of Techron than the less expensive 87 Regular. Love my Techron
