It is my understanding that the engine splash shield on the 2024 Hybrid is actually made for the EcoBoost so the oil drain plug and filter cannot be accessed on the Hybrid without removing the entire shield. I do my own oil changes, it would be too tempting for an oil change person to leave off a couple of those screws. There are 15, and I also have spares. An old friend of mine who was a very highly skilled mechanic used to say "A good mechanic knows how many parts he can leave off and get the job done". Frightening!

Had a good visit at the dealer this morning. Got the Works, total bill is about $84. Had a $15 off coupon from the dealer, used 8000 points ($40), paid a $32 balance, and have the current $20 rebate promotion coming back to me.

I question why I am crawling under vehicles to do oil changes a little more with every passing year,
This is the universe telling you, "It's a good day to buy yourself a lift."

😇

How the heck do you strip the threads on that? they must have put the bolt on with an impact tool.
decades ago, my father took his '83 Cougar into a wheelworks to get the tires rotated. As the kids approached from either side with air guns, he warned them, "No, don't do that!"

"We know what we're doing!" they said, as they applied the guns to the faux chrome lugnuts on the plastic lugnut covers . . .

😱

My ‘24 lariat hybrid is now 1 year old, with 5,800 total miles.

so sorry I missed the dealer oil specials two weeks ago, advertised $68, not sure what all was included.

Today, a 5K service (which don’t exist for this vehicle), $200.

Included tire rotation.

Service writer didn’t know anything about deep sleep, ‘just need to drive more’.

Wanted a dealer service for 1st oil change. Will be shopping next year!

Do you really think they do all those checks, they change oil and filter, check tire pressure, coolant and washer fluid that's it, they walk under vehicle with flashlight while oil is draining and look around. Technician gets about a hour and does it in less than that, takes him more time to find the vehicle in the lot and check off all the items on that list. My dealer has a oil change special for 80 bucks, oil and filter and tire rotation and they check fluids. I know they check tire pressure because I would let air out of one tire, they probably check OBC while pulling it in to see tire pressure, can't expect much for 80 bucks these days. Dealer labor rates are 150 to 175 or more in Citys now, they will look at brake pads, muffler, tires, oil leaks, etc. money-making items that take minutes to check, they want to sell parts and labor can't blame them they will lose money on oil change to get people in.

Same experience... only screw-up I've had was 1st/only oil change by the dealer and the next quick service oil change place found the oil cover plate Ford tech put on was crooked and they had to replace 2 cover plate bolts that were stripped by Ford... Only reason I'd go back to a Dealer for an oil change is when they have the free tire rotation.

I trust people that know what they are talking about on oil changes. Have two antique cars that get driven 3 to 5 thousand miles a year. Neighbor is a GA Tech Mechanical Engineer and well know industrial engine designer. His suggestion about infrequent oil changes was time will make any oil loose it's viscosity just sitting in an engine: Viscosity - "the state of being thick, sticky, and semifluid in consistency, due to internal friction. "cooling the fluid raises its viscosity over time, not necessarily use".

Should I deduct all electric miles driven when calculating my oil change intervals using only ICE mileages I just rolled over 4000 total miles but 1800 of those are electric so my actual ICE mileage is only 2200 miles I was planning to schedule my first oil change at 5000 miles…

No idea, but I'd assume coasting/regenerative braking is still turning the engine on the ICE of the Hybrid.

You can use the remaining oil life monitor. Just pick your % remaining life that you want to use 60%,50%,40%,30%..... Let the computer calculate the type of use in 4k,5k,5.6k,etc. it will vary in miles travelled from one change to the other.

My oil is stale!

I knew I should have put the lid on it and kept in in the refrigerator!

🤪

anyway, that's a good sand often overlooked point.

I wonder if it's the exposure to oxygen that causes it to break down in an engine, but not sealed in the bottle?

One of the reason is Exhaust Gas Recirculation. (EGR) Nitric acid doesn't form directly inside the EGR valve itself, but it can be a consequence of the NOx (nitrogen oxides) gases that the EGR system is designed to reduce.

Just did my oil change at the dealer yesterday. $132 for a tire rotation and oil change. Insane! Luckily I had FordPass points to cover the whole balance, but I won't be going back to the dealer for the next oil change.

I went to the dealer for my first oil change because they emailed me that the first 1 was free. When they finished I saw indeed no charge to me. When I looked later at my points balance to order an accessory They had taken points to pay for the oil change. I called and asked about this and was told to read the really little fine print in the email. It did say "if enough Ford reward points in account". I won't go back for any service.
WOW! Total Gotcha! While we don’t know how small the print was or how obscurely placed it was, IMHO the service writer should have told you when you signed the work order.

Where and what dealership was this?

Costco full synthetic oil bought on sale and wix filters from Rock auto. Oil change costs me roughly 23$ and an hour of my time.
