I run my 22 non hybrid on 87 reg fuel. Hearing people get more horsepower and better for engine to run on high test. Any opinions?
I have tried 87 and 91. No performance difference that I could feel. No mileage difference. I generally use top-tier gas though based on Consumer Reports.

ATV and boat fuel. Marina also 2 miles away from them on the same road.
I remember, some 40+ years ago, driving my 12.5:1 289 Mustang to the local air strip, and filling up with 100 octane AV gas, just like at a gas station....🤣 How times have changed.....🫤

Here is something else to think about when deciding what fuel to use, the factory warranty. Say you have an engine failure which has been known to happen from detonation in ecoboost engines and you have been running 87. You can be denied a warranty repair if it is deemed you should have been running a higher octane based on temperature or if you are towing.

False.

Higher octane isn't required for towing. It is recommended "for best overall vehicle and engine performance". You can't be denied warranty repair for not following a recommendation. "Should have been running" implies that it is required.

A minimum of 87 octane or higher is the requirement.

This is similar to the Motorcraft motor oil recommendation in the manual. Some people seem to think they need to run Motorcraft oil to maintain their warranty, but that isn't true because brand is a recommendation, not a requirement.

The owner's manual says the engine is tuned to run best on 91 octane, so I've been using only 91 because it's available here, and 93 when 91 is not available. But since I've never used 87, I have no idea if there's any difference in feel.

Oops, suppose to say LOWER octane may cause damage as per OM. My bad.

If you can find it ethanol free, Top Tier, 91+ octane for the win, but depending on where you live that can be tough. If you can't find it in Top Tier then look for fuel additives with PEA and dose up the ethanol free for similar effect.
And around here you will pay $1.00+ more per gallon, definitely not worth it. JMHO.

why spend the extra money on fuel that the vehicle was not engineered to use? Placebo effect of making you think you're getting better mpg or the engine has "more power" or will "last longer"?
Website and owners manual, in smaller words on the pages, state for optimal performance use premium. 87 is the standard to get by the EPA.

I would add a non-ethanol blend to that.
I have been using non-ethanol in my EcoBoost ever since I took it home. There are only two stations near me that offer non-ethanol. One is a WaWa with 89 ocatane ($3.59/gal as of Friday), and a fuel oil company that sells 87 ($3.59/gal) & 93 ($4.59/gal) non-ethanol gas.

I have been using the 89 non-ethanol in my 2017 Focus and my 2023 Maverick regularly. They both average about 4 miles per gallon more than the 10% version. Yesterday I topped the Maverick off with 93 octane. It was only at half a tank, so I won't know if the mileage is any different until the tank is full of only the 93.
