I had one on my SUV, but I've read on here that they cause the inside of the receiver to rust which makes sense ... So I'm leaving it open for now and keeping it clean to see how it goes.

Similar thing to BBQ grills: I kept a cover on my old one and it rusted badly, the new one doesn't get covered but it gets washed and it's rust-free after nearly 2 years

I've seen some other posts saying the same thing regarding these hitch covers leading to rust issues. I bought a Ford Performance one with some points but I'm hesitant to install it due to these potential rust issues down the road.

I have a hitch lock on mine.

Mine was just a cheap rubber Ford one, didn't have a way to lock it.

I have the Ford logo light up hitch cover below but I don't like it because it doesn't fit right. It's very loose and when the windows are down I can hear it moving back and forth when I hit the brakes or the gas. I also don't like leaving it constantly plugged in leaving the trailer hitch plug always exposed to the elements. I added some window conditioner foam to secure it a little better and I don't even plug it in which defeats the purpose of a light up hitch. So lets see everyone's trailer hitch covers.
