2025 Gas gauge

What is up with this gas gauge...why does it have a filled segment at the top, all the time? Does the level line only move in 1/4 tank chunks?

The horizontal pointer on the left is the actual level, and it will slide down in small increments. The other stuff on the vertical part is just some designer trying to be artsy.

I'm still on my first tank of gas. It took me half a tank to figure that out. I thought I was getting about 100 miles to the gallon before I noticed the pointy thing.

I've had my truck for almost a month and never seen it between the hash marks, only on them, 1800 miles and my 5th tank. Honestly, I just look at the estimated range left.

1/8 chunks but that does not make it any less wonky. The "miles until empty" number is much more accurate and useful and is on the main display at all times.

I actually think the gas gauge is better on my 25 than on my previous 22. The 22 moved in quarter segments and the 25 moves in 8th segments.

The '22-'24 gas gauge moves in 1/8 segments.

The more I use my 25 the more I can live with the new gauge cluster and ac controls on the screen.
I am an old man with old school preferences but as long as it starts and takes me where I want to go the gauge cluster oddities are unimportant.

The half red blob is there to tell you it's time to get gas. The white blob is a design element to make it look even.

Two vertical gauges buttressing a center display are a common layout theme in glass cockpit design. The engine temp and fuel gauges appear to use some design from rotating vertical analog gauges, where fat or colored portions on the dial face made them stand out relative to the rest making it easier to identify notable quantities, on a fuel gauge of course E and F, volt meters would have the ideal operating range highlighted, and so on.

Come on Ford, give us new features and give us back simple old school gages.
And buttons,
And knobs,
And dials,
Sorry, Ford, us old farts will be dead soon enough.
It’s far easier to baffle these younger ones with bells and whistles.

Someone tried it a long time ago, after they completely ran the tank out of gas it was a mile or two at low speed.
