Ford should be ahead in the safety world not behind.
We should have full voice control by now.
Like Tesla.

Example:
( I named my truck Pepper after Pepper Pots in Iron Man ) The color, hot pepper red.

Typical voice command:
‘Pepper’ cool the cabin to 72 degrees, and turn up the radio 4 points.

My eyes never left the road.
It’s that simple.
Ford, Step up.

Pepper, sport mode please. Etc.

It’s 2025, we should not have to ever touch that screen while underway.

The very same arguments happened in 1966 when the Schwinn center bar Stik-Shift was introduced.....

Was excited about AWD Hybrid. I too test drove a 2025 with knobs removed to the screen...and that one feature convinced me to keep my MY2022.
Same here, I would have gone for the 2025 AWD but due to the removed knobs (and the goofy front styling) I decided to keep my 2022. The removed knobs really cheapened the look of the dash. Also not fond of the redesigned cluster.

A truly greedy move by Ford to save a few $, especially considering the massive price increases to the Maverick after the 2022 model year.

It's clear that relying on consumer choice to force manufacturers back to physical controls isn't working, there simply isn't enough competition in the automotive space to choose based on this criteria, coupled with the fact that it doesn't appear to impact sales figures in any meaningful way over a decade+ of automotive sales. European regulation will probably be the only thing that applies real pressure, at least in that market.

I think this does not take into account the better design of Ford's interface than 90% of other touchscreen cars I have seen. The row of easy access buttons along the bottom eliminates a lot of hunt and peck. It is also mounted high enough in Maverick and my Escape that you can still catch movement and brake-lights ahead while looking at it.

IMO this is one of the safest screens there is, and due to interface improvement and better responsiveness, it may be safer than the 2022-24 models. Though coming from one of those there would be an acclimatisation delay.

I was however fortunate to learn to drive, and gain experience driving before phones. Thus really learned the "road first" thing. When younger gens have been accustomed to instantly respond to their phone/screen, they probably find it super hard to break that habit, and thus the driving isn't first. Before it was actually illegal to phone and drive, I have cut off calls, tossed the phone on the seat, dumped a coffee in the pass footwell etc because sudden situations developed. If you'd rather die than let go of your phone, you will die.
one of the reasons my son is getting my old Ranger and not a more modern car. Learn to drive and navigate without splitting your focus. And keep that phone down.

Fond memories of my childhood Schwinn. I'm a lifelong distance cyclist, and I still miss that first bike. What was the name of the bike in the Orson Welles movie about Citizen Kane? I've got that syndrome.

Ford Sync 4 comes w 2025 Mavericks on XLT & Lariat trims. I don't have my vehicle yet, so I can;t speak from experience using it, but I read that it does let you control heating & AC from voice commands.

I like the fact that O'Reilly auto parts forbid cellphone's in their delivery trucks.

It's true it can support voice commands. But having used the voice commands in 3 separate vehicles now it is still more annoying to voice command than to reach and do it yourself. There are all sorts of different situations that come up where voice commands interfere and are not as practical as it would seem. Have you ever asked someone to help you with something real quick? How does that turn out? More times than not, OK... But not always. For example if you have other people in the vehicle and people are talking. When listening to something and you want to make an adjustment. It is just awkward more times than I expected it to be. There are some fun things like telling your Tesla to open "butthole" to open the charge port door. That is good for some laughs! LOL

Steering wheel controls can help for sure. I did find I could adjust my volume and some basic things with the steering wheel controls. That is helpful, climate controls weren't adjustable that way. Depending on the steering wheel controls if they are not back lit they can be hard to see, and use in the dark. So simplicity in design there would be helpful.

I strongly disagree. The key is that you are looking at the screen to push those buttons instead of the road. You're distracted. When a kid runs in front of you and you're trying to adjust something, they don't have bright brake lights on their body and you can't see them. Its an incredibly bad design decision.
I strongly agree with escapologist. My 2025 feels like the safest vehicle I have ever had. Of course the driver is 99% responsible party here, no matter what they are driving.

Bullshit. 22-24 owners have to take their hand off the wheel (or reach) to adjust the temperature. 2025 owners don't have to.

I'm a 2022 owner and I don't have to take a hand off the wheel to adjust the temperature - Why? I drive with one hand, leaving the other for knob adjustments (amongst other things).

Well, I drive with one hand too. But point is, You don't have to reach in the 2025. Fixed the post.

It appears all one handed forum members believe their Maverick year is safer than all the other years.
