Toyota confirmed they planned to bring a small pickup, it's just a matter of what and when. For Subaru, anything other than a Baja would be a travesty.

I will dump Ford in a second for a Toyota or Subaru truck.

I bet it will be a shared platform like the BRZ/GR86 teamup they did. Do a beefed up version of the RAV4 320HP PHEV AWD in it, call the Subaru version the Brat and give it the better off road trims, and it will obliterate Maverick sales I would think.

Even if they announce today that they are doing it, it'll be years before we see anything on the road.

With that being said, I hope for a surprise announcement that it's secretly been in testing and they are releasing 2026 Stout with orders available in late 2025, based on the Rav4 which comes in both Hybrid/PHEV and will directly compare with the size/layout of the Maverick Hybrid.

It will be interesting to see what new products automakers actually do launch. Between the tariff situation, EV tax credit likely going away, and much of the world being flooded with cheap Chinese EVs, I don't think they will invest much outside what they can assemble in existing American factories that won't require huge investments to re-tool.

You have to remember this is Toyota we are talking about. They have been rumbling about compact trucks and solid state batteries for a decade now and it hasn't happened. By the time they actually do bring something maybe 2027-2028 there will be a LOT more chargers than there are today. But a PHEV and hybrid version is right up their alley for sure. I just wouldn't hold my breath waiting on Toyota.

Based on what Toyota did with recent pricing on the Taco and 4Runner- they can go pack sand.

Toyota has been smart not throwing out a lot of full EVs because they know that full EVs aren't actually better for the environment right now contrary to what most people think. People with common sense and Toyota know that hybrids and PHEVs are the sweet spot right now.
If infrastructure and clean energy one day do make full EV's more practical, I'm sure Toyota can catch up to other auto makers quickly.

I gave up on Toyotas in 2010 due to so many expensive repairs across three Tacomas, I drove 80 to 90,000 miles a year and took one to 528,000 without any engine issues.

As for Subaru, my brother swears by his 2024 Forrester.
