Oh dear God no, full synthetic only touches this truck |
Please let us know the results of your fluid change for the AWD Hybrid.Just for comparisons sake....I am having the lower control arms replaced on my wife's 2018 Odyssey at my local mechanic.
Honda quoted $1,700 for both control arms. He is doing it for $820.
My 2025 Lariat AWD Hybrid has 5,300 miles on it and I said to him that I am an avid member on MTC and that there are reports of blackened and short filled PTU and RDU fluids and how much would he charge to drain and refill both, and rotate my tires for me while doing it?
He said, "Does $100 sound fair?"
"Sure...I'll pay a little more if you'll measure what comes out vs. what goes in and take a picture of the break in fluid?"
"Yep. $100"
EDIT: Granted it might not be just $100 if for not doing the control arms (and a bunch of other work) on ultra reliable (heavy sarcasm) Hondas and Subarus over the years. Doesn't mean going the extra mile to measure what comes out and take photos of what does - that is the difference to me. I'd pay twice as much because of his service.
If you don't have time to do the oil change yourself, but you have time to take it to the dealer. That doesn't make sense at all as I find DIY oil change is faster than taking it to the dealer/wait for oil change/drive home. With DIY, once in a blue moon, I would drop off the used oil at the local auto part store.Yeah.... I haven't had the time to do my own oil changes in a while so I have it done. My usual theory is to try to have service done at dealer during the warranty period and then after that I go somewhere else. Yeah I know, not needed but that's what I like to do.
With the Maverick though since it's recommended oil changes are 10K miles I have gone to the dealer for the 10K intervals, but at the 5K intervals (5, 15, 25, etc) I go to a little shop next to work that is very good and oil and is about half the price.
Yea use to. , but wanted to use fordpass points up and oil changes worked for me . although second oil change dealership lost one bolt from skid plate on my fx4 . had bolt at home that I use until dealer replaces bolt . still waiting for replacement . maybe next and last oil change at dealer . fordpass points will be gone and so will fordpass app .If you don't have time to do the oil change yourself, but you have time to take it to the dealer. it’s the same system as the ecoboost so expect the same results. Black, metal particles, under filled. Please let us know the results of your fluid change for the AWD Hybrid.
Ok this is very disappointing news. Why would it be black coming right from the factory and be under filled? I guess some metal particles are normal due to the break in process. I just picked up my AWD Hybrid (2) weeks ago but only have a 250 miles or so on it so far.Its

PTU and RDU get hot and don’t have an oil cooler like the Tremor and Lobo’s advanced systems.Ok this is very disappointing news. So both the PTU and the RDU have separate fluids that need to be changed correct? I need to educate myself on this more so sorry for the questions. Do the PTU and the RDU take different fluids? I need to look at the owner's manual and see what Ford recommends for change intervals and go from there I guess.PTU and RDU get hot and don’t have an oil cooler like the Tremor and Lobo’s advanced systems.
Early and frequent fluid changes the way to go.
Why do they come under filled? Because Ford is cheap as fuck. There’s no other explanation.

Look if you never perform any maintenance to either unit odds are in your favor they’ll go for 100k or more.So both the PTU and the RDU have separate fluids that need to be changed correct? Yes......"Avoid service at Stealership at ALL costs"So if an oil change is 70 bucks (29 bucks at walmart) it looks like the only thing they did for the 200 dollar service other than look at stuff is put some wiper fluid in. 130 bucks for some wiper fluid. Am I missing something here?
I hear you - it's not really the maintenance interval that worries me, it's the question of how underfilled are those fluids and how much debris is in there....Look if you never perform any maintenance to either unit odds are in your favor they’ll go for 100k or more.
Every bit of a chance someone like me who is going to change them far more frequent than called for still has one of them fail.
I wouldn’t stress about them, perform the maintenance that gives you peace of mind.
When you folks on the thread talk about taking it to the dealership for an oil change are we talking the actual service dept at the local Ford dealership or the Quick Lane facility that's part of our dealerships around me?Taking mine for the free first change at the dealership I purchased it. If I like their service I may go back and use points. If not I'll go to the Napa service center I have been using or the one up the street. The one closest to me will do oil change and rotation for $30 if I supply the oil and filter. I wouldn't even try to rotate and change it for $30.
