Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share my latest upgrade on my 2022 Ford Maverick (Velocity Blue)! Got new wheels and tires installed this morning, and I’m seriously pumped about how it turned out.

Wheels: 17” Black Rhino Boxer in Gunmetal

Tires: Falken Wildpeak AT Trail – 235/65R17

I initially tried to go with the 245/65R17 Wildpeak AT4Ws, but they rubbed a bit at full lock. I swapped to the AT Trails in 235/65R17—no rubbing at all, and I think they still give the truck a great stance. Fills out the wheel wells nicely without overdoing it.

Ride quality has stayed really smooth, which surprised me in a good way. It feels more planted, and I swear the hybrid has a slightly more aggressive sound now—like it knows it’s rolling on chunkier rubber.

While yeah, I’ll admit the aesthetic upgrade is a bonus, I do plan on using these for some light trail exploring and fire roads up in the national forest when I get the chance. The snow in Indiana can be nasty in the winters, so these will also help mitigate the FWD setup. Figured it was time to have a setup that can handle a bit more than pavement when I need it.

Appreciate all the advice from this forum—it really helped me choose a setup I feel great about. Let me know what you think or if you’re running a similar setup!

The wheels and tires look great! I think the "on road" all terrain models like this are the right category for most Maverick owners and their uses.

Kudos for being specific about model. I can't tell you how many times there's a fitment thread and the commenter says, "I have Wildpeaks in 2XX/6X R17" and don't say what model. That's frustrating.

looks good. those wheels are very light with a claimed 21 lb, did you happen to weigh them (even on a bathroom scale) to check? I did see they also have a 1375 pound load rating, if we consider the rear wheels with a full payload of 1500 pounds in the bed, that's probably right near the max rating, but should be fine.

I'm pretty surprised the 245/65-17 wildpeak at4w rubbed. those wheels are only 16mm less clearance than stock on the inboard side.

Yr gonna love those tires! 3Peak rated and handle great in Snow, slush and rain! Dry is very very good as well.
The only downside will be for you is the slight drop in MPG. But other than that they are phenomenal tires. They are what I have for both Summer and Winter sets.

Summer I have my OEM Carb Grey Aluminum and for Winter is a set of MSW black wheels. I didnt want the salt to ruin the OEM Carb Grey as they matched my rig perfectly.

Well chosen! For me it came down to these and the Firestone Destination AT2, I ended up going with the latter and absolutely love them, but I am sure these will prove you very well! If you, like me, mostly drive on road or gravel and sometimes need to get down an old trail for camping (or fishing for lots of folks) then these will be great for you! They don't bite quite as well as others, so just be mindful of that and get momentum if you start spinning going slow.

With the hybrid we can only go up to 235s, the EB (at least, prior to 2025, I am not sure if with the addition of AWD in 2025 if maybe now you can fit 245s on a hybrid) but the EB has traditionally been what can fit 245s. Good thing, though, those AT4Ws are very heavy! These aren't too bad, but I ended up going with mine (was a toss up between FS Destination AT2, Wildpeak AT3w, and Scorpion AT3+) and I too got the disappointing news that 245s wouldn't fit (I asked if they had any in-network, I would like to try) and that was that, so, I went with these and am loving it. They are not that heavier than the OEM 225s so while I have lost a few mpgs (5.2L/100kms to about 5.6L/100kms on average -- so maybe 3mpg lost) but I do have strict confidence in the fact I will never get a 1200km tank (~750 miles) without high efficiency tires ever again, of course. But I wanted these because the downsides to those OEM tires far outweighed the benefits of such an efficiency-minded tire.

Thanks! I haven’t weighed the wheels myself yet, but I might try using a bathroom scale just out of curiosity. Good to know the 1,375 lb load rating is cutting it close on the rear axle with full payload, but still within spec — that gives me some peace of mind.

And yeah, I was surprised too that the 245/65-17 Wildpeaks rubbed. I figured with only 16mm less inboard clearance compared to stock, they’d fit fine. Might’ve just been tight tolerances or the sidewall bulge causing it. Either way, I ended up going with the 235/65-17 A/T Trails and they fit great with no rubbing.

Yeah, I figured I might lose a little on MPG, but honestly, it’s worth it for the look and the extra durability. Good to hear you’ve had a great experience with them year-round — that gives me even more confidence in the choice. Appreciate the insight!
