Agreed... shoulda, coulda, woulda! For those that didn't buy the maxzima mud flaps and don't want to spend money on new ones, I found this at Walmart. You can cut them with a good pair of scissors, they're diamond plated, and the same color and flexible material as most mud flaps.

I think I corrected the gap before Maxina was even offering a Maverick flap. I really like my Mabetts. I had a neighbor who had some scrap commercial roofing sheeting that I cut to fit over a year ago. Still working fine. Cost me nothing and allowed me to be creative, very satisfying job. Cool, good solution as well. I have no complaints about the mabett mud flaps but the gap got to the best of my ocd. They way I look at it, my add on is just another customization unique to my Maverick.
Thanks for the heads up that the Maxina flaps are a better fit for that spot. I have my list of things for the Mav saved in my later list on Amazon. I will just swap out the flaps I have waiting for purchase. Saved me another project later.
No problem and I'm not endorsing one over the other. If you do with the maxina ones, use the link in this thread from @dlhort1955 because I believe they made some with the gap as well. Even the Ford oem mud flaps have this gap which is strange!

Brought this up before . pickup bed cubby installed fixes this problem .I paid $45 dollars at dealership with fordpass points . I have xlt and already had cubby on right side so added to other . same cubby for both sides . May have to add a couple of bolts if it bothers you . I just used existing bolts from cover on left side and left it at that .

If you have a Lariat or Lux Pac, you can't put in a cubby without modifying your LED light and inverter outlet. Also, some stuff will still get up there, just not make it all the way to the tail light.

So I just picked up my XLT on Thursday and have been looking into Mudflaps. So just to clarify are you saying I can install the pickup bed cubby on the drivers side and it will cover up that gaping hole everyone is talking about? And if so would I still need to mudflaps?
So these Maxzina mudflaps cover up that hole like the RokBlokz ones do for the Maverick? Are you using these Maxzina ones? Just got my 25 XLT on Thursday and looking into Mudflaps and came across this thread.

Just from what I read in this post and the link posted by @dlhort1955 in post 18 above. The Amazon content says they cover the gaps. The info by the OP indicates that Maxzina also had an earlier version that did not cover the gap. Use the link.
Edit: I already made my own gap filler for the Mabetts I bought 16 months ago. Cost me thirty minutes time and some scrap material.

I was inquiring about the maxzina mudflaps and appreciate the reply. I have a question about adding the storage cubby in the bed. You replied to @Jah. and mentioned some 'stuff' will still get up in there with adding the cubby just not all the way to the tail light. So is it possible to add the cubby (I wouldn't mind the extra storage anyway) and some mudflaps and would doing some stop most of the stuff from getting in there?
Also is this same area were are talking about the same area where people are putting the underbody cover (like the one from Mabett) or is that a different exposed area underneath? Sorry for all these questions I just got my Maverick and I'm trying to make sense of all this. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I see your in Michigan, so I would be concerned about keeping the winter road mix out of there altogether. The cubby will prevent much of the crud from getting to the very rear, but I would think much of the stuff will still get thrown through the hole and be trapped there. I did grow up in Northern New England so I do know what you're up against. I'm not sure which trim level Maverick you've got, but it is easy to add an additional bed cubby on the left side of the XL and non-Lux package XLT. The part cost I think is about $50 from Ford. If you have a Lariat or an XLT with the Lux pack, then that cubby access panel already has the bed LED lamp and inventer outlet mounted in it and you would have to relocate them. I personally would not do the cubby as a block for this area, you can flush it out better without it. I would block the gap in the wheel well first, then add the under body cover either from Mabett or there are many ideas on this forum. I added the Mabett cover (about $90 I think). Now that I've installed it, I don't think I really needed it for my use case here in the South. I got it mostly because I made holiday trips to see family up North in years past and was able to get it at introductory pricing.
Hope this all helps, depending on your winter exposure, I would at the very least block that gap in the wheel well. This will keep most of the stuff from getting kicked up into that side panel. To help prevent more and airborne spray I would add an underbody cover. You may still want to flush it out until your comfortable with it staying clean. This can be done by removing that panel holding the light and outlet. Some people said they removed the tail light to flush it. Many have had problems getting the tail light to stay in after removal. Then there are others who use only a fluid film to prevent rust. (So much useful info on here!). Good luck trying to decide!
