The reason some reconsider the SUV or CUV option, is the 30 to 40 sq ft of weather proof storage behind the rear seats, when the 2nd row seats are occupied. You might not want your Costco TP to get wet.

In my case I also considered how infrequently the F-150 was used as a truck.

How else can I be prepared for the Pandemic if I don't hoard?

I find it interesting that no one mentioned the Escape Hybrid. Comes in FWD and AWD. It's a fine vehicle and get's outstanding mileage - the wife's AWD is averaging about 41 mpg (not much highway). The price is good too. Not as good as the Maverick, but should be on that list to consider.

The Honda CR-V Hybrid EX or the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid LE are less capable and more expensive purchases so as such lesser value.
..
The Toyota and Honda have a high resale value, which does not mean much if you are the type that keeps vehicles a long time.

I cannot speak for everyone, but if it wasn't for the Maverick, Ford would not have been a brand I would have considered. When it came to SUV/CUV, for me it was Toyota or Honda, that was about it. If Toyota releases a small Maverick like pickup in the next 5-6 years, I'd jump back to Toyota very quickly. I've been driving Japanese cars my entire life, I'm just used to how they lay out the controls and feel more comfortable with it.

That resale value isn't just for a few years after purchase, even 10-15 years later you'll tend to get better selling price for a Toyota/Honda than an equivalent American branded vehicle.

I just picked up a new RAV4 hybrid and I really like it. I didn't want it but was forced to find a new vehicle because of a suicidal deer strike that totaled my CR-V. I am keeping my Maverick hybrid order (8/09/21) and will decide what to do when it comes in. Even though I have not seen a Maverick in person, it really appeals to me.

I have been driving a 2002 4runner since new. 290,000 miles. Been shopping for a new car for 3 or 4 years and up until the Maverick there was nothing I liked; to big, to small, to expensive. I rented a RAV4 last year for a 1000+ mile drive. I liked it but not as much room in the back as my 4runner. And a lot more expensive for the hybrid. Just not my cup of tea.
The Maverick ticks off all the boxes for me. I'll be in line on Aug. 15the for the hybrid.
