click bait video is clickbaity. It is almost certain your maintenacne costs will be more over 10 years, but batteries isn't it, that was a concern 10 years ago, they've figured out how to make batteries last, mostly by not charging and discharging them fully. There are more things to go wrong on a hybrid, and more things you can't fix yourself. That said, you can buy a 10 year old Prius (basically our tech) and they are fine. I would've gotten a hybrid if they had been avaialable, I wanted a truck, not an 18 month wait.
The Maverick has a liquid cooled battery, which is one better than the air cooled battery in my Prius C that was just starting to lose capacity after 10 years / 100K.

I personally expect the maintenance cost of the hybrid to be lower over the long haul than the ecoboost. No turbo, no direct injection, it doesn't run all the time. Hybrids are not overly elaborate rube goldberg machines, the technology is very mature, and reliable when well implemented (which it seems Ford has done). The only ding I have noticed is dead stops from engine off are slightly more abrupt than Toyota's system.

Window sticker WAY off.

Waaaaay too LOW.

I only go fewer than 700 miles per puny little tank while towing.

Got over 800 miles per tank twice.

7 cents per mile at $4 a gallon.
5 cents per mile at $3.

Maintenance in first 3 years: $70.
And that includes a new cabin air filter that some consider "optional".

I hope you aren't expecting a Ford to last like a Toyota, which is the most salient point about a Prius.

Danger, grouchy ICE driver.
I’ll say. He’s on a computer the so he does embrace some technology.

I have State Farm, they don’t care that it’s a hybrid.
I drove my 2006 Prius to the junk yard. That car was an amazing hybrid. It paid for itself and I essentially got the car for free if comparing to the gas savings vs. and ICE vehicle.

Hit a car with a family of 4 in it and watch the lawsuit. I have 500k/person 1m/accident, Property damage? Have a medical emergency and crash into a house. I have 500k property damage, medial 15k, Comp $50 ded. collision $250. But I do remember that my Eire was much lower in Ohio than Virginia. I think because Ohio enforces the speed limit.
Yeah sounds like you’ve got some really extreme coverage. Hey good for you for protecting yourself.

Some on here need a sticker that says "arrogant, pompous hybrid driver"
You cited your GPA of 5 decades ago. Me thinks that applies to some ecoboost owners as well….

I'm just messing around and it's all in good fun. I owned a Toyota Prius myself a few years back. Loved it... Just sat too low for all for the speed bumps everywhere and poor rural roads in Mexico at the time... Replaced it with a Sienna Minivan, which we loved as well... It traded fuel economy for space and power.

Honestly, I think the issues with the Hybrids have been worked out and it's transmission really seems to be a step forward.

I'm 71, drive like I'm 71, and really enjoy my 25 Lariat AWD Hybrid. I don't recall any learning curve when starting out with it. I considered getting a 100% ice maverick. I just wanted a small truck for ease of driving & parking with the ability to throw stuff in the back. A hybrid or an ICE are both fine as far as I'm concerned. I know that I'm probably not saving a penny in the long run by owning a hybrid, but it feels good to only fill up every other week or so. It's just a feel-good thing for me, like my Ram 1500 4x4 was when the Hemi was humming and I had the rear window slid open and stepped on the gas to enter freeway. I'm not a hybrid zealot or a car zealot either. But for right now, I enjoy my hybrid trucklet. Hope ya'll are happy with whatever you bought!

I had the Prius C, which was based on the Yaris. Reliable powertrain, but the rest of the vehicle was not great.

I don't expect the Maverick to be a vehicle that can do 200K miles, and then another 200K plying the jungles of Cameroon like an old Hilux, but I do expect it to be a reliable vehicle with vigilant maintenance. They have not been out on the road long enough to reveal issues beyond the CV axles and deep sleep (already did an AGM battery), but who knows how well plastics in the cooling system, and various modules that manufactures love to cheap out on that become really hard to diagnose and replace down the road will hold up.

Having been in some newer vehicles from Stellantis and Hyundai / Kia in the past year, I just don't get the wow, this thing is total crap that is going to fall apart vibe. Seems like routine repairs from expected wear items will also be easy, as well as most things in the engine bay.

I stumbled across this video while looking at Maverick reviews, and I think some of it is really good, and some of it doesn't quite land for Mavericks.

First off, watching the video does have me questioning things like maintenance costs with an engine + hybrid system, and longevity + replacement costs of the battery.

But I think the author missed a big one on the price points. Let me explain:

For simplicity I'm going to discuss the 2025 AWD + 4K towing configurations, because that's what I want to actually buy. The hybrid Maverick is more expensive than the ecoboost. And it will pay for it's $2,200 101A equipment group in roughly 5 years based on the fuel savings on the window sticker. But the video fails to mention that the 5 year savings is against a mythical average truck, not the ecoboost. And the ecoboost looses about 200 dollars a year vs that mythical truck economy. So we're going to find out how long you need to own the truck for just the fuel savings to make the hybrid break even.

Starting with an Ecoboost with the AWD + 4K towing:

This truck has a MSRP of $30,550 and a "slope" of +$200 per year in additional fuel costs vs the average.

Next up the hybrid:

This truck has a MSRP of $32,350 and a "slope" of -$500 per year in saved fuel costs vs the average.

Plotting them gives:
maverick_price_slopes.jpg

So your actual break even point for buying a hybrid (maintenance and all else being equal) is just under 3 years. I think that counts as "not bad."
I'd say the real-world MPG difference is +6 MPG for the Hybrid, not +12, at least for my driving. However, I'd likely be putting 91 or 93 (by choice) in the turbo so I'd say your graph is still accurate. The Hybrid was the cheaper option on my 2021 order. I'm absolutely going to kill it in fuel savings if I can keep this thing going for 6-10 more years.

After waiting a year and rolling over, I said I wanted to change to a Blue Ecoboost AWD. They said you're stuck with the white hybrid order! I would have been happy with either configuration but for vacations and weekends the turbo wins.

Second I hat the Auto stop start feature with the engine shutting off at a stop, it would drive me crazy if it did it while driving when it switches to battery. So for me personally the hybrid would never have broke even in VALUE to me.
LOL You have to purposefully listen closely with the radio turned off to even tell if the hybrid ICE is on or off. If radio is on, can't even notice.
