I have been a long time lurker here, I have read a good portion of the articles on the Maverick and thought I knew what to expect. My wife on the other hand hasn't read much on the unit and her first impressions were similar to mine. I felt I had nothing to contribute , good or bad until I had laid eyes one in person, Unlike others on here I try not to speculate on what might be. We have a 10 year old F150 Lariat that I drive and she has a 2019 Mercedes GLC 300 suv and she wanted a small pickup that didn't break the bank. Both of our current units have plastic interiors but both seem to blend quite nicely with the vehicles' interiors, where as the Maverick interior doesn't match anything else on the truck. Dimensionally, the Santa Cruze is shorter in length but it appears more proportional to our eyes and we do like the black interior in the Santa Cruze at least there is some continuity, This was not meant to put anyone else off, it was just our observation of a unit that we had not seen in person till this weekend. We ordered July 06/21 and the unit arrived Nov 15/21, Pretty much on schedule with what the dealer told us when we ordered. The price as ordered in Canada was a tick over $43,000 Cdn at MRSP before tax, so not an entry level truck by anyone's imagination. My expectations were high and the unit did not live up to them. To those that want to hate me for choosing to not spend my own money on something I don't want , go ahead, not going to hurt my feelings and if it makes you feel better to vent, I am happy for you. I do hope that others enjoy their units, it just isn't what we wanted or expected in a unit at that price point,
Good luck on your truck search. Sorry this one didn't work out! Ignore the negativity, as you already said you were, a lot of people on here are really irritable for no reason.

Personally, it sounds to me like this person (Bullitt1448) is in someway affiliated with Hyundai trying to dissuade people from buying a Maverick. Just my 2 cents! Like some of you mentioned why join to just to make your first post a big negative about the vehicle. Just go on your way, and Thank you!

On to positive news, Got my Sticker and blend date is 11/17. Have by end of year, who knows?

I’ve test driven both an eco Maverick and base Santa Cruz. SC does feel bigger inside but really isn’t when you start moving around. I can’t explain why it “feels” bigger. But i went with Maverick because it feels and looks like a truck which I prefer. That and I’m a cheapskate and my XLT hybrid was 5k cheaper than the Sc test drove. That and MPG sold me on Maverick
Probably the black/dark interior. Black can really mess with size and depth perceptions. The lighter/more contrasty interior of the Maverick provide more detail for your vision to key scale/depth on.

That’s ok OP, the guy who buys the truck you rejected will be happy with it. Your expectations were too high. I think your just used to a certain level of comfort and quality. That simple. Spending 40k on a 20k truck, no matter how you visioned it, will never be a Platinum F-150. And that’s ok. Most of us are more than happy with the level of quality, comfort and options our ‘cheap’ trucks have. I myself am not a big fan of the color choices Ford used in the interior of the Maverick, but the materials used isn’t a concern of mine. We, the consumer, got exactly what we wanted from the auto industry: a cheap, small truck. I’m happy as a clam with mine. The things you dislike about it aren’t a problem of the truck, they’re yours. Lower your expectations a bit to a reasonable level.

Jeez, some of you guys are as bad as Tesla stans with this blind devotion to a vehicle. You go into immediate attack mode just because someone posted an opinion that wasn't 100% rosy. It's just a car. Chill out

I guess somebody musta read the Motor Trend article this morning praising the SC until the surprise twist at the end where they picked Maverick as the better truck :p Nothing like having your Cheerios pissed in to start your day :ROFLMAO:

It's absolutely adorable, isn't it?
Everything is so team orientated in this world today though, I suppose we shouldn't be surprised.

He didn't comment that I found a fully loaded F150 Lariat for 73k that I am sure would meet his expectations for quality and fit.

no, we're reacting to someone who had unrealistic expectations from the start and claims to have ordered sight unseen. That's hardly an "attack"

Sounds like they either have stock in Hyundai, work for Hyundai, or have friends/family that do. They don't give any details about the type of Maverick that they "supposedly" ordered or from where. Some dealership will be happy they are getting and extra unit and extremely happy if it was a hybrid. Nobody twisted their arm or threatened them to order the truck sight unseen.

I was reluctantly shopping for F150's before I saw the Mav. If you like the luxury of the F150 cab, it comes with a ton of trade offs. The F150 is massive so of course the Mav is gonna feel small. The Mav is a small truck like the old rangers, and is generously bigger than those trucks.

On top of that the Mav is a budget truck you can throw add ons at. It's not a $30k truck with lariat lux, it's a $20k truck with 10k of add ons. You're comparing it to the F150 that starts at $37k and can be a $37k truck with 13k of add ons.

it sucks that the Mav isn't for you but going into it comparing the two is like comparing an EcoSport to a Corsair

If you’ve been lurking you should know most of us are a bit biased and generally ass holes to people who don’t like what we like. In the end you helped me by moving on and I appreciate that. The polar differences between the Santa Cruz and Maverick speak to two different people. I’ve made my choice and Ford will give me a truck in a couple years.

I have a hard time believing that you had absolutely no resources and no information at all about the Mav's interior and how plastic heavy it is. I think every video on YouTube and every review out there points out, in detail, the plastic, the designs, the materials, etc, etc, etc. I think every review, even the positive ones, mention how cheap the interior is, in terms of the plastic and the use of recycled materials. It's one thing to never read any of the topics or discussions here, and quite another to not do any type of research at all. I hunted every dealership within 50 miles of me to find out when they would have a Mav so I could sit in it, which would have made me choose between buying something else, or waiting until my early December delivery. You're right, ordering something sight unseen sucks, but there are ways to make it work, and it seems like you just ordered and didn't follow up in terms of doing your own research to determine whether or not to stay on the Mav bandwagon. This would have helped your expectations. The disappointment is basically on you.

Good luck finding the right vehicle for you.
