Good grief. Okay, I'm sorry but can you detail exactly what you're paying now for your family plan for just calling and texting? Because unless you're on something like Tracfone with pay per usage then you have to be over paying for getting nothing in return. There are very reasonable providers for unlimited talk, text & data.
My father does it all, we weighed the options and what I have is great. I am looking to see if I can use the truck service with what I have, not change my cellular plan.

$25 for unlimited text and data is cheap. And nothing compared to the cost of a truck.
My home phone service cost $22 40 years ago and didn't include a texting feature. If $25 today is to much then you need a reality check.

Yes very confusing OP and thread.

OP - your phone very likely has limited speech to text, NOT using Google assistant.
That also requires data usage for corrections - if disabled and only letting the phone do it, you'll have to spot check each text before it goes out because I've usually seen mistakes galore when people do that.

The solution without wanting to change data plans, or use more of limited data.

Pull over and stop the truck, if you really need to respond to a text message or send one that badly.

If you stop reading them while driving that'll prevent the need to reply.
If you still need to send a text like informing someone you are 5 min out get ready - pull over where you have signal.

Easy solution.

I'm really not sure how we survived 30 yrs ago. Oh yeah, actually I do, very easily.
You called and told someone to be ready, if you wasted time waiting, then both learned a lesson to be applied next time.

The expensive option of buying a cell service thru the truck that your phone connects to via WiFi - depending on your phone, still might send text messages out thru the phone's cell carrier and if there is no signal, back to your issue.
Trucks AT&T signal may not be everywhere you are anyway.

I didn't realize you were a kid, I thought you were an adult. You can't do what you're asking without cellular data. I believe even Carplay & Android Auto require cellular data. If you want it to work you will need to add a data plan. The reason I asked is because you can get a phone plan with unlimited everything for $25 a month and that includes taxes. Visible for example has a $25 monthly plan that include unlimited talk, text & data and uses Verizon's network. Anyway, good luck.

There is no truck service.
You are misunderstanding.

With sync (BT, cabled autoplay, wireless autoplay) - your truck is a huge microphone and speaker to YOUR phone and whatever it provides basically.
Just think of it that way to simplify.

If phone has no cellular - guess what.
If phone service has limited data you don't want to over use - guess what.

To your original post - there is no fix without changing something not related to the truck.
In other words, to your statements - there is no fix.

So I can call on my phone, but not on the truck for what reason? I have cellular signal, just not unlimited 5G data for a Wi-Fi connection. Seems stupid the car can't just feed my message through to the phone, but what do I know. Going from an '04 escape to this it's been a big change trying to understand the features. Ill be just fine without this one, just trying to understand it!

The above shows a lack of knowledge on this.
That phrase doesn't make sense.

Unless you are making your phone a hotspot for other devices to connect to it via WiFi.
If you are attempting or think the truck must connect that way to your phone - it only does that for software updates, so stop.

You can call on your phone - you said cell signal was spotty or non-existent.

At this point who cares if the truck doesn't sync with your phone - you don't want to use extra data that would be required to accomplish hands free text messages.
So just stop.

Or are you actually talking about typing on a keyboard on the Maverick screen to send a text message while driving.
I'm not helping ya!

Hello to all on the form,

Picked up my new Maverick last week. Loving most of it so far, but a few things I am unsure about. Most of this relates to the texting situation. I have tried time and time again to un-sync my phone, shut things off, and get the device to connect for texting. I have been able to get calling to work fine, I can't get it to text though. Whenever I use the voice command, I get "sync is unable to message through your device, check device settings".

For reference, I use an android device and I tried wired and wireless connection. I could only get it to work through android auto, using the google assistant, which requires an internet connect I don't always have. Would love to know if anyone has a fix.

To make matters worse, my driver's side window makes a buzzing sound now. Pretty sure I got a defective motor, as it's only been 2 weeks. Getting that solved next week.
I made my salesman pair my phone to the Maverick. Make him earn some of that money

Do yourself and every other driver on the road a favor, and don't text while driving. Too many Mavericks have already been totaled by distracted drivers.

have you tried connecting your phone to the truck via usb?

Regardless, as another person said go to the ford dealer where you got the vehicle and ask them to show you how to connect it. Other option is to go to your cell phone providers store and ask them to help you. Both will know what is causing the issue and will be able to fix it.
