Ok I know the Maverick isn’t a true or typical firewood truck but I have certainly hauled a lot of firewood with it since owning it and have always been impressed and happy with how it performs! I’ve never towed near the 4K limit due to trailer limitations but I’m sure I’ve been slightly over payload capacity with hauling firewood in the bed a couple times. Truck is still in good shape at 31k miles despite almost every weekend having to do firewood chores. I changed the PTU, RDU, and trans fluids not long ago and all looked good. If anyone has any questions don’t hesitate to ask! Here’s a few pics and if anyone else loves firewood (I might have an addiction 😂) feel free to to check out my YouTube channel. Full disclosure it doesn’t have much Maverick content, yet. Craig’s Cords to Coals YouTube

Edit for Dec 2025, another video with emphasis on the Maverick.

Edit for October 2025: firewood delivery video featuring the Ford Maverick!

That FLOE trailer looks very handy. I hadn't seen those before.

Looks like firewood fun to me! Were you bringing it home or cleaning up around the home?

Yes they are great little trailers, very light and durable. Downside they are pretty expensive for a small utility trailer.

They haul firewood perfectly. You mentioned you probably exceeded the payload capacity but I doubt that. Payload capacity is listed as 1500 lbs.

IMG_4007.jpeg
Some portion of 1,500 pounds anyway. The actual payload is on a placard on the driver's door frame and will be some number less than 1,500 pounds depending on your options.

I agree, and I don't believe the term "truck" has ever implied a ladder frame. It's funny how some people are so protective of the term "truck" that it must be qualified but SUV's, which originally were all ladder frame, can pretty much be anything that looks like a tall car these days and nobody cares. I usually call it a small pickup to avoid the argument.

My Mav door sticker says 1365 pounds. Minus myself and some equipment I bet I’ve been close or slightly over cap. A face cord of green (not dry) red oak is about 1600lbs. Granted, the Mav can’t quite fit a face cord in the bed.
