Ideally. However, consider the time and expense of re-tooling existing production lines in the US (or building new production facilities). Add to that the cost of labor in the US and lower vehicle prices is a remote possibility. People say they are willing to pay more for products made in the US - but. . . . .
People say that manufacturing cars here is too expensive, yet many foreign manufacturers have plants here and sell their vehicles at competitive prices. Subaru just moved most of their production here and their MSRPs did not increase noticeably.

I am old enough to know nobody can predict the exact butterfly effect any action will have on the future, but I cant foresee Mav prices skyrocketing due to production moving to the US.

I guess that's why my dealership asked me to sign a document saying that I can't sell my Maverick for 6 months. I told him I will sign it after I speak with my lawyer. Then they gave me the truck... Silly
they don’t want the competition. I doubt it would hold up in court anyway.

Where was the outrage over 30%?
Are you kidding me? Not a day goes by where I don’t see a post on here or Reddit without someone whineing “it was supposed to be a $20,000 truck!”

LOL Subaru has not moved most of their production here, they have expanded their Indiana facility to meet demand but it is almost always at capacity (that's how Subaru rolls). Their other 4 plants are in Japan and still make the BRZ and Forester for US markets.

Seems like the $19,999 truck that is now 25,670 has already went up 30% and that was not due to any tariffs. Where was the outrage over 30%? Still selling 2025 models? If you don't like the price, don't pay it. I would rather the Maverick be manufactured/assembled in the USA and if tariffs encourages that then so be it.
Bingo! Maybe the pleather seats wouldn't smell like the material was stored in a cattle barn if production moved to the US... just a thought. 😁

Subaru has had a VERY huge plant in Indiana since 1989...I've have had several. Japan and many other countries have trade treaties that are reciprocal for trade. We ship billions of food products to Japan every year. Most Honda's delivered in the US are made in one of the 8 Honda Plants in the USA. The US, Canada and Mexico signed a major trade agreement in 2018 but it was broken so here we are again. Mexico has a trade policy that no car maker can sell cars in Mexico without a factory there. This is partially why Ford is in Mexico, which allows Ford to sell Fords through South America. All the foreign car plants are in the US to avoid tariffs and shipping costs. Ford's problem is they own the billion-dollar Mexico plant and parts, and profits in Mexico...Mexico only provides labor & a few parts....at about 1/3rd the cost of US labor.

It's a tit for tat: 5O+% of all Tesla are made in China, have no idea if they pay a "T" to import.

Most dealers have plenty in stock right now, all tariff free.
I bet the dealers are going to jack up prices on the buyers. The Maverick Hybrid is the only vehicle we have had that has not lost fair market value after 3 years and 30,000 miles. It's an amazing thing.

Agreed. And then what happens if the policy changes again?

From Ford's perspective, production in Mexico (Mavericks, Bronco Sports, Mach-e) will be drastically reduced. Any sales incentives will be eliminated. Prices will be raised. Doesn't look good for consumers or the auto makers.
Especially bad for what's left of the Big Three.

It actually was when it came out, thats why I bought one!
No it was a $21,495 truck - barebones, 4 model years ago.

All F-150s are built to a $30k price point. They are cheaply built to a $30k point. Nobody should ever pay more for an F-150 beyond their base MSRP price from 2021!!!!

You come up with a long term strategic plan and implement it. Could be that 25 percent (or more) might be for the next 3.5 years or longer. Could be a new admin comes in and gets rid of the tariff. Could be new admin comes in, gets rid of tariffs, and then increases corporate taxes. Ford doesn't seem to have a big concern about losing $20B+ on their EV investment so maybe they abandon that losing proposition and retool the EV plants and bring back manufacturing from other countries, writing off their EV losses and using the 'savings' (or lack of future EV lo$$es) for their retooling efforts.
