Dare I say the USA's cheapest clean title Maverick? Could be a good investment with this news. Let's see if the tariff actually goes through for the Maverick or not. Might be time to pick one up if you haven't already. Buy, buy, buy!
damn that's almost 60k a year! heck of a lot of uber eats to be delivering!

First off I'm not endorsing any political party or motives or tactics or reasoning for the newly announced tariffs. I live in the Detroit metro area and just trying to get the facts. I find the following stipulation interesting on the newly announced auto tariffs..........
  • Importers of automobiles under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement will be given the opportunity to certify their U.S. content and systems will be implemented such that the 25% tariff will only apply to the value of their non-U.S. content.
    • USMCA-compliant automobile parts will remain tariff-free until the Secretary of Commerce, in consultation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), establishes a process to apply tariffs to their non-U.S. content.
Looks like possibly the Maverick may not receive the full 25% tariff, rather just a percentage based on the non American made parts used to assemble it.

I fondly remember when the most polarizing topic on MTC was how long it was gonna take for the first Maverick to be delivered to a customer.

This will hit Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Ferrari, McClaren, etc. Oh, not to mention Lada...

just going to be ridiculous to try and calculate that.

1x 1/2" rubber hose - china
64 screws - korea
4 bolts - mexico
1 tube of maple syrup - canada
4 sheets steel - usa
etc. etc. etc.

who's going to count every little piece to determine the percentage of where? what happens if they have multiple suppliers for a given part in different countries? crazy.

I feel like the pendulum swung too far towards gorging ourselves on cheap imports while entire industries and cities that supported them were wiped out, but it should be a LONG TERM plan to bring back manufacturing that can be competitive with minimal, and prudent protectionism.

Guess we'll see what Ford does with the Maverick. If they axe it owners are going to be really screwed owning a vehicle that cost a fortune to repair with parts that don't exist, and doubly if this leads to major financial problems for Ford (good luck with your warranty claims, and zero support).

Who knows though. I am tired of being a Debbie Downer, but it's hard not to be when every day is a circus of amateurs. For once in my life I actually kinda feel bad for a CEO. If you're Jim Farley, how do you even try to plan for this without having shareholders get the knives out, or failing 170,000 employees.

edit*

Also extra salty today because higher vehicles prices will just keep the death spiral of insurance premiums going up too. I got my first renewal notice today after switching 6 months ago for this vehicle, and my rate went up 11% despite using the spyware app and driving like grandma. Can't wait to see what insurance cost in 6 months or a year at this rate.

My maverick shipped on the 18th. I am very nervous about what my price is going to end up being. If the tarrif hits it then I will not purchase.

If you have a signed sales agreement (DORA) with your dealer, no need to worry...you are price protected.
